you know, the text of an audiobook is allowed to be different from the written version. for instance, when your character describes the pronunciation of words? yeah, you can delete that.

on the other hand, you can add clarifications that aren’t clear without italics. for instance, you can put “Hearthstone signed” after Hearthstone signing.

some random riordan-verse daemon headcanons because i’ve been rereading this 

the Egyptians associate daemons with the ren, the description of who you are

Carter’s daemon settles as a falcon the moment he chooses to become pharoah

Zia’s settles as a beetle after the Throne of Fire

Sadie’s doesn’t settle until a year or two after the books end

Egyptian gods only have daemons if their host has one. so Bast and Bes don’t, but when Sadie is being chased by Babi and Nekhbet? also being chased by her grandparents’ daemons

Walt’s is settled into one shape at the start of the books, but after merging with Anubis she resettles as a jackal

sometimes Artemis bends the rules, but in general you can only be a Hunter if your daemon hasn’t settled yet

most of the HoO crew is settled before the books start—only Leo, Hazel, and Frank aren’t 

including Nico and Reyna as part of the Crew(tm)

cyclops/dracanae/centaurs/etc have internal daemons like us and Chiron has to explain that to Percy in the first book

Chiron has a pretty convincing daemon made out of Mist but Tyson doesn’t have one at all, people are just kept from noticing the same way Percy never looked above his chin

the Minotaur has a beetle daemon that almost no one ever notices

Frank’s daemon settles permanently but Alex and Sam’s never really do. They have “default” forms—a cheetah for Alex, something avian for Sam—but they never lose the ability to shapeshift. (Sam’s daemon hates to, though)

Magnus’s daemon settles on a regular Tuesday a few months after his mom dies, when he finally resigns himself to being homeless forever

the Norse gods are the only ones to actually have daemons of their own. mostly pretty obvious—cat for Freya, raven for Odin, goat for Thor. Odin’s daemon and all giant-kin daemons can shapeshift, but have a default form like Alex and Sam’s.

i have no idea how to be bad at math, but i haven’t taken a math class since i had to drop one two years ago because i hadn’t taken a math class for over a year before that and i couldn’t remember how to be good at math again and i have no idea how to be bad at math. and because i was good at math in high school the math i have to take is calc 2. and i’m dying a little.

how do people who are bad at math do good at math?

"Okay," Annabeth said. "We can do that. Clarisse, can you take him to the Big House?"

Clarisse looked unhappy, but she escorted him inside, accompanied by two burly campers that he didn't recognize, but assumed were her half-siblings. One had a tattoo of a rainbow on his bicep, which was odd but he couldn't really process right now.

Belatedly he realized he was wearing a camp shirt and his old necklace, with the six beads. Who had brought him here? What did they want from him?

someone just wrote a beautiful post about the things they would fix in kotor 2 and all i can think about is how the shuttle you use to bring three people from dxun to onderon uses the same model as bastila’s on top of the rakatan temple, which only carries one person, and how if i had any modding skills whatsoever i would change it so it uses the model of literally any other shuttle in the game

Halloween Challenge, Day 30: Through A Glass Darkly

In another universe, Ahsoka takes her trials.

Ahsoka recognizes the face in front of her. It's what she looked like on Mortis, when the Son corrupted her. It's strange to see it, the pale, veiny skin, the yellow eyes. It's the same age as she was then, so Ahsoka's taller, changed. But it is so familiar.

"Hello, me." The apparition is calm.

"Hey." Ahsoka is not sure what she's supposed to do.

The apparition smirks. "Not going to ask why I'm here?"

"You're going to tell me anyway, aren't you?"

"I'm here because you know you could be me, if you just let go." The apparition cocks her head to the side.

Ahsoka lunges. It's like she has no control over her own body—she knows that she needs to listen to her visions to pass the trial, but she can't stop herself from attacking the apparition.

"There you go." She moves differently than Ahsoka does, her muscles looser, her defense with more holes. But she moves fast, and parries Ahsoka's every move. "You can feel it, can't you? The joy of battle."

Ahsoka can feel it. She closes her eyes. There is no emotion, there is peace. But fighting is soothing, familiar, after so many years at war.

The next hole in the apparition's defense, Ahsoka shoves her saber into her heart. Breathing hard, she extinguishes her sabers. What next? Did she fail?

The body picks itself off the ground. Instinctively, Ahsoka lights her sabers again. But the apparition is changed, different, older. But this is not the future self she saw on Mortis. The older Ahsoka's marking are more developed, and the stripes on her lekku have forked.

"Who are you?" Ahsoka asks, wary.

"I'm you."

"Yeah, I noticed."

The apparition smiles, amused. "I'm who you could've been, if you left the Order."

"If I had made the other choice, after they turned on me."

"Yes. But also who you could still be, if you decide to walk away now. Devoted to good, but not a Jedi." The woman points one of her sabers towards the ceiling, and ignites it. The blade is white.

It's an option Ahsoka had considered before, but there was one problem with it. "How can you be good, without an order supporting you? Offering guidance?"

"It's hard. But it's easier than you imagine."

Ahsoka shakes her head. "I couldn't do it."

"You could. If you choose not to, don't let it be because you doubt your capabilities."

Ahsoka closes her eyes, and thinks. "I don't want to. I don't want to be alone."

The woman smiles. "Okay. But this is always an option. It's never too late to leave." The apparition fades, but her sabers remain, clattering to the ground.

Ahsoka picks them up. The curved grips fit her hands perfectly, and the crystals sing to her with a gratitude she doesn't understand.

In her heart, Ahsoka knows her true trial will outside this chamber.

She lays both sets of sabers on the ground, and walks away.
