What type of world does your novel take place in? It has a wonderful surreal feel to it that I can't compare to any other form of literature I've read. The closest thing it reminds me of is a mix of "Grimm fairytales" and "Return to OZ"
Oh dear, thank you for asking! (When you told me, I had a yes or no form of questions in mind).
I’m sorry but I have to open the gates to the flood to answer that, hehe.
My world of fiction that my characters live in ‘Mad Fantasy’ centers around 7 moods I have. (I jump from one to the other coz I’m super moody and can’t stand to remain on one subject for too long.) All of them represent novels but I have only written some of mood 2 and mood 4 (They do have titles but I call them moods now after I’ve seen someone I’m following take one of my titles as their username, har).
They all live in the same unrealistic world under the same concepts and rules but their availability and intensity differ from one mood to the other, they also categorized similarly but one element is slightly more in each mood.
So for the novel you’re asking about (mood 4), it is around surrealism in a way (all my moods are, tbh), and GOD YES I’m aiming to have it as a sense like those books.
Maformity is normal in this story, everyone is either birthed that way or paid to have certain look or got fixed after an accident. It’s when monsters (Malformed humans in this story) are elegant, well-spoken— don’t go ‘Boo’ and dare I say beautiful with their frightening look, some of them helpful and some are not, in any way they scare the life out of Sabine with their ideas or goals and sometimes try to harm him in the process. The novel is in a form of gorey science and naivety told in light fairy tale kind tone.
Oh it is very hard for me just to pick, as it is a personal creation, I wouldn’t create something I hate or not interested in (only one or two oc idc maybe) so each character I adore in its own way and time and I think I crossed the threshold of 200 but I keep saying I have 150+ for years (starting maybe around 2003), Lol.
So I’d say, the main characters of the moods are on the top of importance to me (most of them gathered in the middle circle above). As to why I fancy them, it’s mostly for personal reasons. Some of them were my imaginative friends, some came to visit me in my dreams, some regenerate thrilling feelings that I poured in them once every time I look at them, even the darker ones gives me hope and meaning. They are exploration of ideas in the form of visual personalities that are able to cause emotions and inspiration. That’s what I love the most about designing characters💛
In my trip down the memory lane, I’ve found something I did in 2015 (or tried to do) I like to show you, which is lining up allllll my characters in headshots, but I didn’t have the patience for it, so only managed these:
I’m sorry I have so much to share but didn’t get around to do anything yet, so you might not find anything about them on my blog. But time will remedy that.
Thank you so much for giving me the chance to speak about my passion 💛⭐
