The Phenomenon Research Agency (PRA) is a private government-owned organization headquartered in Charleston, West Virginia. Founded in 1945 by Austrian-born researcher and former psychiatrist Dr. Klaus Angstrom, it is known for capturing, containing, researching and experimenting supernatural entities, objects, phenomena and locations in West Virginia, with two of its field offices—one in Broodhollow and another in Point Pleasant (both built in 1946)—located in Mason County. HISTORY
Following the disappearance of encyclopedia salesman Wadsworth Zane on March 7, 1936, Dr. Angstrom began doing research on the creatures and the supernatural—like the Angleworm, the Stitched Man and the Stillwood Forest's temporal phenomenon—in Mason County. In 1941, Dr. Angstrom heard news of entities from urban legend occurring all over West Virginia, and a month later, he moved to an apartment in Charleston. Later in 1945, Dr. Angstrom founded the PRA and established its headquarters in downtown Charleston. Throughout the 1940s-1970s, the PRA placed field offices all over West Virginia and, at the same time, captured and contained supernatural entities, phenomena and objects (including the Hirsch Camera, a wendigo and Candle Cove) and even fenced off locations that contain or possess any phenomena; locations like the Stillwood Forest. By 2026, the PRA has contained over 1,000 supernatural anomalies.

My parents were weird hipsters who supported indie comic artists, and absolutely HATED children’s media, so I was a super weird kid. I’d be hanging out at school tryna connect with the other 2nd graders and I’d be like “Have any of you read Broodhollow😬”
something interesting about Local 58's extra material is it consistently lists Lasker City, Ichor Falls, and Edenvale as the places it broadcasts to, but there's never any mention of the town of Broodhollow. while one would think that this is because something extreme happens to the town, it's actually just as likely that Broodhollow is so small it has no reason to be mentioned and it's implied by the "greater Mason County area" line. what a nice night to learn absolutely jack shit.
also, you can see Lasker city and Edenvale mentioned in Broodhollow! these places have been part of Mason County's greater setting for a while now, even though from what I know we barely know anything about them. maybe L58 will elucidate on them a bit with some local news or something. that'd be neat.
i think ultimately keeping L58 and Broodhollow separate (or as separate as two cosmic horror works set in literally the same small county can be) is a good call. building up the inter-connectivity of a horror universe too much could lead to too many conclusions being drawn through that connective tissue, diminishing the horror through clearer answers.
there is this, though.
so i'm writing out a timeline of events for my broodhollow x vampire the masquerade AU, but i'm struggling to figure out what to do in regards to Iris and Angstrom
they're likely to figure out some of what is going on without being told by Wadsworth, but i'm not sure what would happen after that? Arthur wants Iris and Angstrom to stay away so they can keep up the Masquerade, but it's unlikely they will even if they're told
what do you guys think if anything?
starter call!
