Season 5 Episode 10b - Rhonda Goes Broke
Before I talk about how much I like this episode and why, let’s cover the one thing that’s bugged me even before I knew anything about investments and grown-up money stuff: if you can’t withstand a one-week drop in your stock values, and have to sell your house & possessions because of it, you’re doing it so so wrong (or it’s a cartoon and you need to make someone broke, then unbroke, fast). Without some professional assistance, I’m sure the Lloyds will literally be living in boxes when 2008-2009 hits Hillwood.
Now, onto what I do like, and why this is one of my favorite episodes. Much like Rhonda’s Glasses, Rhonda’s been dealt a crummy hand, sulks and whines for a while, then decides to turn it all around and totally own her situation using a revised attitude and her reputation as a fashionable person. Even if she has to tape up her ugly glasses or dig around in a dumpster, she’s quick enough and has enough people skills, when she chooses to use them for good instead of cattiness, to become Queen of the Geeks or rock her Shower Chic outfit at school.
