Does adhd worsen overtime without medication? I remember having symptoms of adhd when I was a kid, but it seems like now I can't pay attention to as many things as I used to.
Whether or not you take medication hasn’t really got any bearing on the trajectory of your ADHD; all medication does is help manage some of your symptoms.
Puberty does some ridiculous things to ADHD. People who have an increase in estrogen usually find that their symptoms get worse as a result, and people who have a surge in testosterone often find that things (particularly hyperactivity and impulsivity) get easier to manage. (Yet many professionals/”experts” will deny that hormones have an effect on ADHD, and that people who say their symptoms get worse around menstruation are making a false correlation. Happily, Patricia Quinn and Sari Solden know what’s up there.)
There’s also the impact of life changes. The more stress you’re under, the more difficult it’s going to be to manage your symptoms. If you’re in college now, that’s a huge change from being in high school. The expectations are different, you might not be living with your parents anymore, etc. Adulting is hard for neurotypicals; try learning to do it with a disorder that makes basically every aspect of “being an adult” nearly impossible!
Finally, there’s the impact of diet, exercise, and sleep. If you’re not getting enough sleep, your symptoms are going to get bigger. If you’re not eating properly (including a decent amount of protein), your symptoms are going to be harder to manage. If you’re not exercising regularly, your brain isn’t going to function as well as it might otherwise.
All of these things could be factors in the problems you’re experiencing, but I doubt a lack of medication is worsening your symptoms. :)
