Hi I’m back again to call out racism in the fandom ✨

Something I’ve been noticing for a long time is that so many twilight blogs say “fuck smeyers racism” and think because they say that they’re incapable of being racist. Listen, you can say “fuck smeyer” and still be racist. You can see problems with some of the things she writes and still have really racist takes, speak over/silence BIPOC/POC, etc.

So many of us read these books when we were around 10 years old. We absorbed her ideas during formative years. So please don’t think that noticing some of her racism means that you can make dehumanizing jokes about the Quileutes being “animals” or fetishizes characters like Maria/Leah. You can love the Cullens, but understand that smeyer used them to reflect a lot of her racist views.

You are not immune to having racist ideas even if you call out Stephenie Meyer. So when someone tells you that one of your “hot takes” is racist just listen. Listen and learn and try to be better. Calling out racism doesn’t just mean hating smeyer. It also means discouraging and refusing to share the racist messages in the source material.

This fandom is very good at calling out smeyer and trying to fix her story, but we also need to be good at unlearning every bit of racism she tried to teach us.

It’s not a POC’s responsibility to prove to white people that a person was racist. At the end of the day when shits been said and done, that’s it. You take them at their word. That’s how that goes. Y’all out here believing a racist and not asking them to prove they werent racist.
