March 27, 2021 - Brown Crake or Brown Bush-hen (Zapornia akool)
Found in parts of China, Hong Kong, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, and Vietnam, these crakes live in rice fields, wet shrubby habitats, and reedbeds. They feed on worms, mollusks, insects and their larvae, and seeds, foraging mostly in the early morning and evening. Breeding between March and October, especially from May to August, they build pad-shaped nests from grasses, rushes, and sticks.
A new variant has been added!
