y'all ever think about how hypocritical brown parents can be?

like last night i was on call with my mom asking her if I can get a couple more ear piercings and she proceeded to call me a chapri??? (Which btw in Hindi means something around the bases of for the street or off the street, basically someone who follows trends and think they're attractive but are not) and i just retorted back with "how does me getting a couple ear piercings make me trendy? none of my friends have them so you can't really say that they're influencing me." she then changes the entire narrative to how it would ruin my young and innocent face???? (which btw is vv creepy to think about it when you critically analyse it)

anyways she went got herself a second piercing ❤️

me: I wanna take a yoga course in India at least once in my life

mom: yeah of course, you should find a husband that would like to go with you

me: I would rather not have my identity defined by my husband

mom: well yeah but it's nice to travel together & enjoy these things

. . . nothing wrong with going with a partner but she doesn't see if I was a guy, she wouldn't be saying that to me. also pretty sure that *is* making my identity subject to someone else. a yoga course is meant for me to connect with my true inner Self, not to enjoy a trip with a partner
