It's not really that cold out, is it? Are you asking the thermometer? To a chemist or a physicist, temperature is really just a measure of how fast the molecules that make up air are moving, how much energy they have. To those of us more interested...

To a chemist or a physicist, temperature is really just a measure of how fast the molecules that make up air are moving, how much energy they have. Dull cold-weather conversation under the cut... (you have been warned)
The “polar vortex” has arrived in my neck of the woods, and part of me is like “ok, so?” b/c I grew up in an area where it got to -30 and -40 C for at least part of every winter, but the other part of me — the soft, city-dwelling part that no longer even owns a proper winter jacket (or boots, or a hat, or a scarf, for that matter), is like “OH GOD OH FUCK”...
This isn’t helped by the fact that I currently live in a 1950s wood-framed apartment building with the Worlds Shittiest Insulation™ and windows that may as well have holes drilled through them (I can literally hear the wind WHISTLING through the cracks around them). I spent part of today jerry-rigging what I could to block out drafts, including putting Saran Wrap over the smaller window in my bedroom, and pinning a heavy fleece blanket (the only thing I have in the house large enough, besides bedsheets) over the big living room window.
I don’t mind living/working in the dark if it means not freezing and/or paying a fortune in heat/electric bills. As long as the power stays on I should be reasonably set for the next week.
Maybe it would be a good day for a run.
Weather: 30 degrees F ❄️
Me: 😫 Maybe it would be a good day for a blanket and chilling with the pets and plants.
