clary fray (mortal instruments)
nina zenik (six of crows)
eleanor shellstrop (the good place)

any tips on living alone while depressed and or have chronic illness? everything just seems overwhelming. + how is your move? all settled? ❤️
disclaimer that i'm probably not the best person to ask since i usually really struggle with motivation, but so far i've been really staying on top of household chore stuff and i'd like to keep it up! anyway, i think pacing yourself is probably the most important thing, along with (if you're able) just taking care of the thing when you notice it. for me, that's stuff like scooping the cat litter, loading the dishwasher, bagging up the garbage, etc. bc in the past, i've let stuff build up to the point where it became a source of anxiety, which just made me put it off more and then it would become this monumental task that took way more spoons than if i'd just done it regularly. that's when things get really overwhelming for me, so i'm trying to be a lot better about that this time now that i'm back out on my own again. it's also something i've discussed a lot in therapy and my therapist has helped me with some coping mechanisms and techniques to try and employ.
i do think part of it is probably a bit more unique to my situation in that i lived alone for 6 years and then had to move back in with my parents for the last 3 years when i lost my job and while i fought to get approved for disability. their house is a basement, main floor, and upstairs, and with my bedroom on the 2nd floor, the bathroom on the main floor, and the laundry in the unfinished basement, i would put off doing laundry for literal months. now that my apartment is just one level and has in-unit laundry, i have literally been enjoying doing it. it's still painful to do because of the bending required to get things in and out of the washer (dryer is stacked on top of it), but it's way less work and no more worries about falling down the stairs (again). i also hate dishes/dishwasher stuff, but i've been keeping up on that a lot better so far. while i know it's wasteful, i utilize paper plates and bowls a lot and i run the dishwasher even if it's not full bc by the time i do fill it, things will get caked onto the dishes and i've literally had to throw things out in the past. ultimately, sometimes you just need to prioritize your mental and physical wellbeing over other things. also try not to do what i have a tendency to do and overdo it and do way too much in one day bc you have motivation, bc then you pay for it for days to come (me rn after vacuuming and mopping the whole apartment and am now barely able to move my wrists lol). so yeah, pacing and strategically setting yourself up for success is key.
and not to make a long answer even longer, the apartment itself is very nice and has updated fixtures/amenities and everything, but the management is SO bad. like to the point where i've negatively reviewed them on google and fb and i never do that shit. i've gone back and forth with the building manager over email since before i even moved in and i finally just got wifi today and still don't have AC. it was up to 82F in here last week during the historic heat wave we had and i'm on the first floor 🙃 the emails i've had to send, like im demanding reimbursement for the $120 i had to spend on extra data over the last ten days and that i be credited for those ten days for the internet service bc im not paying for something i couldn't use and i feel so karen-y?? but im also disabled and unemployed, i have nothing better to do than stand up for myself. jeff, who i now refer to as jeFuckFace with my parents, picked the wrong bitch lmao
