Young Camilo sneaking around the house at night sneaking snacks when he knows he’s in trouble and wouldn’t be allowed to have anything other wise and he runs into the large, shadowy figure of Bruno. His Tio Bruno that’s been missing for a while. Who looks impossibly tall and scary in the dark when Camilo is already afraid of getting in trouble for what he’s doing. Rats scurry up Bruno’s body, across the floor. Camilo can’t breath, he’s just too shocked. Then a whispery “Camilo” and he simply passes out.
Bruno, of course, carries him to his bed, tucks him in, and panics the entire time. Did he bump his head? Will he tell everyone Bruno was there? Would anyone believe him anyways? He places a tiny kiss to the boys forehead and sneaks off.
In the morning Camilo isn’t sure if it was a dream or not. All he knows is the few vague memories he has of Bruno are replaced with something more sinister. More interesting. Some nights he stays up late, willing himself to sneak out again just to see if he runs into Bruno again, but he can’t bring himself to actually do it. Was it a dream? Was it a ghost? Or was his Tio actually there? Is he still there? It’s all a lot.
But then Bruno is back and about as scary as a puppy. It’s comical, really. And one day he tells Bruno the story, laughing it off as a crazy dream. But Bruno tells him it happened, and laughs about how worried he was over the whole thing. And Camilo is like yeah I thought you’d be… taller. But Bruno is just like “yeah? Makes sense I guess. You’ve always been so short for your age.”
And they just become really close. It isn’t until Camilo builds up a routine of hanging out with Bruno, confiding in him, and practically becoming best friends that he realizes his mistake. Somewhere along the way he fucked up and fell in love with his own Tio. It’s wrong, he knows. But Bruno is so sweet and funny and kind and cute and Camilo just can’t help it. But he does hide it well. Or, as well as he can, all things considered.
But then one day it becomes too much and he asks “why aren’t you married?” And it’s a little harsh, he’s sure there’s a way he could have brought it up a little nicer. But bruno just gives him a sad smile and says “you know, I’ve never told anyone this before, but” and then goes on with a long story about how he’s seen into the future, gone searching to see if there was someone out there for him. And what he saw didn’t make sense. A man, a woman. He saw a little of the vision, then panicked and stopped the process because he wanted to be surprised. Sure, he couldn’t see the whole future, but he didn’t want to feel like he was reading from a script when he finally met them. Still, he’s never seen either of them, so he isn’t sure what to make of it. But he’s waiting patiently for them to come around. “And even if they don’t…I’m happy with my life as it is right now.”
But it’s the first time Camilo has ever heard Bruno say anything about another man. It has him feeling like maybe there’s a chance after all, but he knows that’s stupid. Bruno is his uncle. It can’t happen. So he just pushes it out of his mind again.
Then one day they’re walking through town and Bruno grabs Camilo’s arm with a death grip and points to the couple across the plaza. “It’s them.” And Camilo knows immediately what he’s talking about. He should be happy that Bruno is finally meeting the people who will apparently love him the way he deserves. But he’s jealous. It sits like an angry welt in the pit of his stomach.
“Go talk to them. Introduce yourself.” Camilo urges. He hates the way he’s feeling about all of it, but knows it’s for the best. He does want Bruno happy after all. But Bruno is hesitant. He’s so shy it’s cute. So Camilo decides to help him out. A little confidence boost never hurt anyone, right?
“Come on. Practice with me.” He shifts into the woman easily. She’s curvy in all the right ways and has a nose as cute as a button. She’s gorgeous and Bruno is a lucky man for it.
“Come on, Bruno. A man as sweet and cute as you shouldn’t be alone forever.” Camilo flashes a brilliant white smile before twirling to the right and shifting to look like the man. He has a strong, defined jaw and muscles for days. “Yeah Bruno. Give us a kiss.”
It’s ridiculous, he knows. Hell, he should be embarrassed by essentially masquerading around and asking for a kiss that he knows he’ll never get. But then he looks at Bruno and it’s like he’s seen a ghost. His face is pale, shocked. The basket he was holding falls from his hands and everything spills out of it.
“What did you say?” Bruno asks in a shaky voice.
“I said give us a kiss, Bruno.” Camilo tells him, still in the strange man’s body. He should change back, apologize. Something is obviously wrong, but he isn’t sure what.
“I…I need to go.” Bruno says and practically runs away.
Camilo is confused and upset. He was only trying to help his Tio out in finding the courage to talk to the people from his visions. The lovers he was meant to end up with.
But when Camilo goes to apologize, Bruno is gone. He can’t find him anywhere. At first he thinks the man ran away again and is hurt deeply. Then he realizes that everyone else has been seeing Bruno but him, and that he’s being actively ignored. And that hurts more than anything. He’s embarrassed and then angry and finally he tracks Bruno down and corners him. Bruno tries making excuses and leaving, but Camilo starts yelling, saying that he doesn’t appreciate being ignored, that it hurt, that he was only trying to help. That if he doesn’t hurry and meet those visitors they’ll leave soon and he’ll never be with them.
And Bruno is quiet and fidgety and finally he’s like “it’s not them….. it’s you.”
And all the air gets sucked out of Camilo, and he’s just like “what” because obviously he heard that wrong. There’s some sort of miscommunication.
But then Bruno tells him how that interaction is what he saw them say. That he knew in that moment that something was very wrong. So he went back, finished the vision in full. That it’s all Camilo. Sometimes as himself, sometimes changing into other people. And that he was so disgusted in himself for preying on his nephew that he tried to pull away, to keep it from happening. He almost ran away again but couldn’t bare to go back to that life, not now. Then he says if Camilo wants him gone because of it, he’ll go and never come back, it’s the least he could do.
But Camilo cuts him off with a kiss.
And yeah…. Something like that. Idk. Lemme know if y’all want the fic. I’ve been thinking about this since I stumbled across the ship.
