My Dearest Mame,

I regret to inform you that I cannot return back to Setauket until the 26th of May. Do not weep at my time away, for I am sending our friend, Caleb to come and visit our home. I can promise you that the days will quickly pass and I will be arriving home before the sun has set. Until then, give much love to Father and our son, Thomas.

Mary huffed at the letter she pinched between her thumb and forefingers. As she folded it back into its original shape, her nose wrinkled into an ugly shape and she tossed the letter back onto the table. She was annoyed about Abraham and his constant leaving. It was as if he made things up just to get away from Setauket. He insisted that it was part of the job, and she was trying to convince herself of just that.

Not long after she received and read her letter, there was a hard knock at the front door which made Mary jump and lose her breath. She hadn’t expected any visitors, but she smoothed her skirt and descended the stairs to greet whoever it was. As she did was arriving at the door, another urgent banging came from the other side. Mary opened the door just as the knocking ended to find a bearded man standing there.

Hmmm, I don’t think so to be honest! I kind of like everyone and I’m sure if someone wanted me to, I could role play them, but I think I would be bad at writing someone like Simcoe or Robert Rogers because they have like this evil, creepy vibe to them that I don’t think I could encapsulate properly. So, I applaud anyone who writes as them xD Oh, and I think I would be bad at writing someone like Robert Townsend. Idk why, maybe his docile and quietness? I couldn’t do that!!

a) what i think realistically:

sam and ben were very close growing up – sam was often ben’s shadow. when they were split up during the war, it was difficult for samuel, but he knew it was likely best for them. he never expected to end up on a prison ship, but, when he did, he prayed nightly, asking the Lord not only to save his soul and selah’s, but to keep ben safe from harm’s way

b) what i think is fucking hilarious:

sam teases ben about yale. a lot. he makes fun of yale as a whole, considering it to be such a fancy place that someone like his brother couldn’t fit in at all. he’s relentless when it comes to teasing ben. (i think he gets it from caleb tbh)

c) what is heart-crushing and awful but fun to inflict on friends:

samuel died aboard the jersey, yes. but his soul was placed back on earth in the body of a young soldier, placed under ben’s command. sam knows that ben’s his brother, but there’s no way that ben knows who sam is. sam absolutely admires ben as a leader, but misses him as a brother, misses his arms around him, or the way they’d whisper at night, or the way he used to smile at him. he doesn’t know why the Lord would torment him like this, to be able to be back with his brother in such a different way, but his heart breaks to know that ben has no idea who he is, and will likely never know.

d) what would never work with canon but the canon is shit so I believe it anyway

Ahh I have so many favorites honestly!!! I think it’s a tie between Ancient Greece and the American Revolution. But you could pick out things from every part of history and I’m sure I can find something that will make it my new favorite!
