...I'm not even going to ask how these two ended up having the same Japanese VA
“Nothing in this world can fill the hole that is your loneliness. You will wander the darkness for eternity.”
“Awaken me from this oxidizing world of a dream.”
That was when Dazai first realized: Sakunosuke Oda understood him much more than he’d ever imagined - right up to his very heart, almost to the center of his mind. Dazai didn’t realize until then that someone had know him so well.
“Be on the side that saves people,” Odasaku replied. “If both sides are the same, then choose to become a good person. Save the weak, protect the orphaned. You might not see a great difference between right and wrong, but... saving others is something just a bit more wonderful.”
“How do you know?”
“I know. I know better than anyone else.”
Dazai gazed into Odasaku’s eyes and saw a glow of conviction. It was clear that those words were supported by some sort of strong basis. Wheter it was past experience or someone’s advice - Odasaku was trying to show Dazai the path he himself had once tried to walk.
Dazai knew that.
That was why he could bring himself to believe it.
Asagiri kafka, “Osamu Dazai and the Dark Era”
a cool detail i noticed is that in the first ending of bungou stray dogs there's a shot of shin soukoku with dazai where atsushi is facing left, akutagawa is facing right and dazai stands in the middle between them. they copied the same shot in season 4's ending but this time akutagawa faces left, dazai faces right and it's ataushi who stands between them. in season one, atsushi and akutagawa are strangers, facing completely opposite sides. and dazai is the one who connects them, the one thing they have in common is their relation to dazai. in season four, akutagawa is facing the opposite side of dazai, meaning that he's not chasing dazai's approval as much as he did back then. and now the thing that dazai and akutagawa have in common is their relation to atsushi, who is as close to both of them as the other, and now connects the two. even though dazai used to pull the strings of akutagawa, now the only bond the two of them have is their relation to atsushi —who has, in a way, changed them both for the better.
I remember being so distraught when we thought Hirotsu and Gin died, and then when it's revealed that Tachihara was the perpetrator, i was literally like "nvm theyre fine. That's his family, he wouldn't kill them no matter what" and i was right.
