Throughout the series we see that Dazai has limited interest in most things, seemingly bored and unamused by everything. He usually carries a disinterested expression during most fights, encounters etc. (usually outside the detective agency when the cheerful charade does not need to be held up). I think this may be because he can predict most of the outcomes to these situations, but that’s why he’s so mesmerised by corruption.

The glimmer in his eyes, his mouth slightly cracking open in awe, the small smirk on his face, the way he stares utterly intrigued. Corruption is the one thing that he cannot predict and it excites him, it’s the one thing that’ll forever make his usual dark, bored eyes gleam in interest.
