Day 27: Road
I put A LOT of thought into this…
Let’s set the scene: it’s 3AM. The wine and sake are flowing. The projector is on. Each BSD character has been given a PowerPoint topic of their choice—and none of them are okay. Here’s how that night goes down:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1. Dazai
Topic: “101 Ways to Die That Are Equal Parts Tragic and Aesthetic”
Includes live-action demos, self-insert fanfiction, and subliminal cries for help masked as jokes. Ends with “Just kidding… unless?” and a dramatic swan dive off the table.
2. Nikolai
Topic: “Morality is a Social Construct and I am God”
The fonts change every slide. He’s screaming. Someone is crying. Half the presentation is interpretive dance and the other half is him firing a gun into the ceiling.
3. Fyodor
Topic: “Why Killing Half the World is the Only Logical Step Toward Salvation”
He brought a laser pointer and a sermon. Every slide is black with white Times New Roman. Ends with “Anyway, your hands are already stained. Let’s pray.”
4. Chuuya
Topic: “Why Dazai is a Menace and Needs to be Punched Into the Sun”
Starts serious, gets personal. There are memes, security cam footage, a guest appearance from a wine bottle, and exactly one tear he doesn’t talk about.
5. Akutagawa
Topic: “Why I Deserve Basic Human Decency (But Don’t Want It)”
Slide 1: A photo of Dazai. Slide 2: Atsushi’s teeth mid-yell. Slide 3: A scribbled poem called “I Eat My Pain.” Ends with him rage-quitting and pacing in the corner.
6. Sigma
Topic: “Trust Issues and the Concept of Found Family: A Cry for Help”
Half emotional TED Talk, half breakdown. Keeps apologizing for trauma-dumping. Ends up curled in a blanket while everyone reassures him for 45 minutes.
7. Ranpo
Topic: “Why I’m the Smartest Person Here and You Should All Cry About It”
It’s just him bullying everyone with facts. He hacks the projector. Dazai gets roasted. Somehow he figures out Fyodor’s entire plan in slide 5 and drops the mic.
8. Atsushi
Topic: “Therapy Isn’t Working and Here’s Why”
The slides are heartfelt and deeply self-reflective. Everyone gets uncomfortably emotional. The last slide is just a photo of him as a kid with “Do I deserve happiness?” in Comic Sans.
9. Chuuya again:
Drunk bonus round: “Dazai is Tall and That’s the Real Crime.”
Ok, I fell into temptation and I'm watching Bungou Stray Dogs.
I watched four episodes so far, so I think it's early to judge a story that's been around for so long. There's a trio of things I want to point out tho:
The first episode is calmer compared to the ones of other animes I've recently watched. I tend to watch shows that play with surrealism and a convulsed pace, that's why I like Jojo's, Madoka Magica and Kill la Kill.
I'm already kinda sick of having the same flashback of Atsushi at the orphange shoved againts my vision. May switch to the manga if they keep using flashbacks this way.
I want to see how this guy Dazai is still alive, there got to be many people who want him dead. Right now it looks like you just have to pose as a bartender and trick him into believing you're 100% into this suicide thing. I know he's probably very intelligent, but I have yet to see that.
Anyways, let's see how things evolve.
Gogol likes Sigma's reaction because he likes to annoying people ❌
Gogol likes Sigma's reaction because it's confirms that his behavior is out of the box, does not fit into the norm and creates the illusion that he is free, that he is destroying the moral framework of society by deliberately choosing insanity ✅✅✅
(okay , maybe it was obvious,but I've only recently come to this)
i wonder if mushitaro goes out of his way to do things he hated but yokomizo loved... do you think he reads the occasional mystery, noting what parts yokomizo would love and what he would hate. do you think mushitaro orders yokomizos coffee order and recoils at the taste and wonders how on earth he enjoyed this. do you think he buys things in yokomizos favorite color even though mushitaro thinks its eye searingly ugly. do you think he buys trinkets that he thinks yokomizo would have loved but he wouldnt be caught dead with. do you think he carries yokomizo around with him everywhere he goes even though it goes against everything hes ever stood for. do you think...
