We're really closing out 2011 on an incredibly high note here in Bastard Jazz world, with about the highest caliber and variety of records in the shortest amount of time we've ever worked. I'm biased, yeah, but in the midst of such a horrible crash of the music industry I'm incredibly proud of the work we've done this fall to bring out projects like Captain Planet's full-length, KidGusto's deep South American remix excursions, the first signs of life from New Zealand's Lord Echo since his amazing album, and this brand new 7" on BSTRD Boots from Detroit producer extraordinare and all-around good dude, Terrel Wallace aka Tall Black Guy.
I first got put on to Terrel through Giles Peterson's constantly caning his mind-bending reworking of Fela's "Water Get No Enemy" on his Worldwide show, and incidentally decided to drop him a line after he started following me right here on this Tumblr. Turns out we'd both been checking each other for a minute and decided to do a project together on a BSTRD Boots 7" with that forementioned tune "Water No Enemy" and a delicate downtempo joint "Lost And Gone" on the B-Side which obscures D'Angelo and Stevie Wonder in typical TBG fashion.
The record has just come out and will be making it's way to shops all over the US, Europe, UK, Japan, Australia and New Zealand shortly. For now, you can order it in the US through Crosstalk, pre-order in the UK/EU through Juno though.

Drop Out Orchestra - New BSTRD Boots 12"
One of the early motivations behind starting the BSTRD Boots label was an inclination to press up on wax those notorious bootleg/mash-up/remix tracks that get passed around by DJs from laptop to laptop, and remain just out of reach to play out for those of us who prefer vinyl or don't care to use Serato. Another inclination was to put out this style of music done on a really high-level, with plenty of musicianship and production talent in the mix - there's plenty edit records out there in the world where someone loops an intro 16 bars and slaps their name on it, which is a little disingenuous in my book, and I wanted to stay far away from it.
I'm happy to say that our latest 12" from Sweden's Drop Out Orchestra really fits the bill on both of those points, if it's not directly in line with the style of music we've previously released. I discovered their music by chance through Soundcloud, a little on the late-side it seems - as everyone from Greg Wilson, Aeroplane, Fatboy Slim, and even fucking Pete Tong (who named "International Track", found on this new piece of wax his BBC Radio 1 "Song of the Week"). I dropped the guys a line and we all were on the same page and immediately excited about putting out 4 of their best known and best loved remixes on a BSTRD 12"....these are total reconstructions from the ground up of Daft Punk, Diana Ross, Cortex, and uh, Rick Astley (which actually works) - and it's finally out and hitting shops now.
US folks can grab a copy right now through Crosstalk, while UK+EU can get it through Juno and Japan through Jetset...many more shops will be coming on-line with it in the next week or so.
