Do you know who you can trust?
Or, can you trust anyone at all?
Well, in the end it’s up to you.
You make the decisions–now make sure they’re the right ones.
Go with Jungkook (78 votes)
“I’ll go with Jungkook,” you say, slipping around Jimin and latching onto Jungkook’s arm. The shorter male scowls, openly showing a hint of disdain on his face, before he turns back to Jin and Hoseok.
Sharing a slightly worried look, you and Jungkook turn and scurry out of the room. Sticking close to each other, you backtrack to the staircase, looking down the crooked steps wearily.
“Don’t move too quickly. They’re seriously rotted in a few spots,” Jungkook informs you, taking the first step down. You nod, waiting a second before following after him. The last thing you want is to put too much weight in one area and have the entire thing crumble with you on it.
“The room where I saw the med kit is right down that hall,” Jungkook says, pointing down a hall to the right. Directly at the bottom of the staircase is another small living space, decorated with worn down furniture pieces. A hall connecting from both the left and right leads into the room, and you assume that must mean you’re now near the center of the large house.
Reaching the bottom of the staircase, you pause right before the last step, noting that it’s already broken.
“Just a little hop,” Jungkook reassures you, but nonetheless reaches a hand up. Placing your hand in his, he grips you tightly as you jump from the second to last step to the creaky wooden floor, still in once piece.
“Thanks,” you say, managing a small smile in his direction, and Jungkook smiles back, tugging on your hand before releasing you from his hold.
Following behind him, you allow Jungkook to lead you up the hall until you reach a room with an opened door. Cautious, Jungkook peeks his head through the door frame, making sure no one has entered since he’d last seen it, and then steps inside.
Inside the dark room you find a rocking chair, 2 short dressers, and a broken bed frame holding a torn mattress. On top of one of the dressers you spot the first aid kit—lid open and contents spread across the dusty wooden surface.
Nonetheless, you and Jungkook hurry over to see what you can find.
“Here’s some gauze,” you say quietly, grabbing it and shoving it into your pocket. Jungkook, right beside you, manages to find another roll, along with some alcohol wipes and a stack of bandaids. Before hogging them all, he gives half the bandaids to you, and when you shoot him a questioning stare as to why he smiles bitterly.
“We don’t know what’s going to happen before we can get out of here…”
Nodding solemnly, you accept the bandaids and put those into your pocket as well.
“We should get back to Jin,” you say, turning to head for the door, but Jungkook reaches out and grabs your wrist, stopping you. Surprised, you blink and turn back to look at him.
He’s fixing you with a perplexed stare.
“Before we go back…I just want to let you know that I’m suspicious of Jimin and that Namjoon guy who was mentioned earlier.”
“What?” you say, taken aback, and Jungkook glances over your shoulder out into the hall before continuing, voice hushed.
“When I came upstairs a few minutes ago to see what was going on…I said I was down here, right? This area of the house is directly under the area upstairs where Jin and Namjoon were supposedly attacked. I heard Jin scream, and after whoever yelled “run” there was the sound of someone hightailing it in the opposite direction you guys had come from.”
“So…you’re saying that they knew where we had been in the house?” you whisper, confused, and Jungkook shakes his head.
“Not exactly—I could hear what direction you all were coming from because you were making noise by running—but what I’m saying is—isn’t it a little weird that after “run” was yelled I heard someone bolting away from where Jin was? And to me it only sounded like one person running…”
Your heart drops, and you stare at Jungkook with wide, frightened eyes. You don’t want to believe what he’s insinuating…
“You think…Namjoon is the one who attacked Jin?”
Jungkook sighs. “I’m thinking it’s possible…haven’t you found anything suspicious?” he asks, and you pause, taking a second to think on it.
“Well…now that you mention it the one who yelled ‘hyung, run’ was…Jimin. And…,” you frown glancing down at your feet as you try to recall how Jimin and Namjoon had first acted towards each other when you’d all woken up. “I swear when we all introduced ourselves earlier, Jimin called Namjoon by his name—not “hyung”…it seemed like Jimin didn’t know anyone in that room besides Hoseok…”
“So it wouldn’t make sense for him to refer to either Jin or Namjoon as hyung,” Jungkook surmises, and then curses. “Fuck…have they been acting then? It sounds like Jimin just shouted to alert Namjoon so you wouldn’t catch him in the act.”
“I-I mean, we don’t actually know if they know each other or not—”
“And why was he so protective of you when I showed up? He kept insisting that he be the one to come and find the first aid kit with you even though you told him you knew me, and I was the one who found the kit in the first place.”
You’re quiet. You…you know he’s kind of right, but god—you also hope that he’s terribly, terribly wrong.
“What do we do now then?” you ask him, voice quiet, and worried. Jin and Hoseok are still upstairs waiting for you and the med kit…even if you suspect Jimin and Namjoon you owe it to Jin to go and help him. Jin and Hoseok…you feel like you should be able to trust those two, at the very least, but…
“Well…we could just stick together--me and you,” Jungkook says, wincing at his own idea—clearly feeling guilty by saying it—and you shake your head.
“I think we need to go back upstairs. I trust Hoseok too, and Jin is a victim right now—don’t you think we can trust them? If Jimin is still there then it will be 4 against one. Plus, I have this,” you say, pulling the hammer out from where it’d been secured on one of the belt loops of your jeans. Jungkook’s eyes go wide in surprise, and you smile a little.
“Hoseok has a weapon too. He, Jimin and I found it when we were exploring upstairs. Jimin originally had the hammer but…gave it to me, saying he trusted Hoseok and I with the weapons.”
“Sounds like he could have been trying to lull you two into a false sense of security…,” Jungkook mumbles, and you sigh heavily, causing the boy to pause.
“Sorry, I just…I don’t mean to point fingers, Y/N, but this situation is seriously getting dangerous, and I want get out of here alive—with you.”
“And the others,” you add in, mumbling. Jungkook nods.
“The others who are innocent. There’s no way a group composed of completely innocent college students ended up in an unknown house together…you realize that, right?”
“I do now…,” you admit, and Jungkook sighs, stepping forward. He wraps his arms around you, hugging you tightly, and you hug him back, feeling tears sting at your eyes.
“We should get back now,” he says into your hair, and you compose yourself, stepping away from him and taking a deep breath. No matter what—you want to get back to Jin and Hoseok, keep safe, and get out of this house alive.
Determination filling you once again, you and Jungkook start towards the door—Jungkook’s body barely inching into the hall when an unfamiliar voice rings out.
The exclamation is followed by a laugh that sounds distinctly like Namjoon’s, and you reach up, gripping Jungkook’s shirt tightly. He turns back to look at you, absolutely frozen.
The look of what do we do is apparent on both of your faces.
But right now, you need to act quickly. The voices seems to be getting closer to your location, but in the dark, disorienting house, there’s no way to be sure.
