Slow. steady. Always taking his time. That’s how he was. He never wasted a movement, never wasted his time. Everything he did had a reason behind it. That way he never had to to do something he didn’t want to do. Because that’s what he was, that was his sin that he was born with.
Sometimes, he even did nothing at all. Or that’s what it looked like. But really he was in his own world, daydreaming. Imaging things that pleased him, that made him happier than any normal activity could.
In his daydreams he had created his own world. One filled with soft clouds and warm sunshine. The perfect weather to just lay under, being still while taking everything around him in. waterfalls that lulled him into peacefulness.
Hills covered in wildflowers that smelled sweet and fresh as the wind gently blowed through them. The same wind that rustled his hair, one of his favorite feelings in the whole world as it lifted gently and then settled back into place.
And in this world, he never had to do anything. All he had to do, was be. And so he did. He let the warm rays of the sun warm his skin and the soft grass cradled him. It was all he thought he would ever need. Until one day it wasn’t.
He grew tired, more tired than his usual sloth left him. He craved for something more. Something that would warm him even more than the rays of the sun on the warmest of summer days. He craved someone.
That’s it. He wanted someone to enjoy this world he had created in his mind with him. But he didn’t have someone. He didn’t have anyone. He had spent his whole life making sure not to get too attached to anyone because attachments took too much effort to hold on to. And he hadn’t wanted that. Until now.
Because he was lonely. He was tired and lonely and he craved someone to ease that loneliness. Because he knew that no matter how hard anyone tried no one could ever relieve him of his tired lazy ways. To do that would be to remove him altogether, and he didn’t want that. He liked being and he like being just the way he was.
He needed someone who could join him in his world. But that meant he would have to find them. He wasn’t sure if he was ready to leave his world of peace and comfort yet. But you have to. If you want to find someone, you have to look for them.
So he did. He left his tiny bubble of a world and wandered around slowly by himself. Hoping, longing, to find that one person who would be able to join him there.
It seemed like he had been searching for forever when he finally found her. He had known that she was the one the second his gaze landed on her. Time seemed to slow down, almost stopping altogether,
She was sitting by herself on a bench, staring at the river and holding a cup of coffee. Not moving, just still as she watched the later. Her hands firm around the warm liquid as she slowly took a sip of it, a smile forming on her lips as it warmed her from the inside.
As he watched her he knew that she was perfect. He didn’t have to know her to know this.
Deciding that he would do anything to have her be with him, he made his way over to the bench and sat down beside her, not saying a word. Besides, what would he even say to her? Words seemed like they would ruin this seemingly perfect moment. And he didn’t want to do that.
And besides, she didn’t say anything either. She just continued to sit there, her gaze shifting to him for a moment before going back to the river. He could feel the warmth coming off of her. Like the rays of his beloved sun.
He knew that he should have been looking at the river too, because surely it was beautiful. But he could not remove his gaze from her. She was the epitome of lovely, and calm. Even more so than the river in front of them.
And then she was getting up. Slowly. But he knew she was going to leave. But not before turning to him and telling him that she would come back here tomorrow, at the same time, like she did every single day.
He was filled with the most euphoric relief. She would be back, and so would he. He would be here everyday until she told him not to be. And that’s just what he had done. Everyday they sat together and watched the river, or the trees in the breeze. But mostly he watched her. Wanting to engrave her beauty into his mind forever.
And then slowly but surely, this was no longer enough. He wanted more, he wanted her to be with him everywhere. But he didn’t know how to tell her this. When he did though, he watched as her eyes lit up.
He told her about his beloved hills, with the waterfalls and the flowers and she told him she wanted to see it too. So he took her there.
All of a sudden his most beloved place paled in comparison to her. Everything was less than it had once been now that she was there with him too. It was still beautiful, but she was more spectacular than all of it.
And they never left. They stayed there together, feeling the breeze wash over them. His head in her lap as she ran her fingers through his hair. Her touch as light as the air that had once been his favorite feeling in the world.
He spent the majority of his days looking at her as she looked at the flowers, or the waterfalls. And he realized that what he had wanted all this time, was someone who would be still with him. Someone that would spend the days doing nothing, and not have it feel like nothing. Because to him, this was everything.
