That’s right! What’s so significant about this day is where Marty McFly and Doc Brown travels to the future at the end of the first movie and the second movie! Great Scott!! 🤪🙌 And coincidentally happy 40th anniversary to the first movie that spawned the entire trilogy within the BTTF franchise! 🥳🥳🥳

I love this movie and the two sequels as well! Universal Pictures made one of the best movie franchises ever and the 1985 film is one of the greatest Sci-Fi movies ever created — also won an Academy Award for Best Sound Effects Editing in the 1986’s Oscars. 🏆

BTTF Day (Eve) at BTTF on Broadway

So today, Monday, October 21st, is technically Back to the Future Day, but the Back to the Future Broadway show doesn't have any performances on Mondays, so they held BTTF Day on Sunday the 20th. And I was there! I won a cheap ($45) ticket in the orchestra for the Sunday show from the Telecharge lottery the day before, so it was very last minute. This was actually my second time seeing BTTF on Broadway. My sister had taken me to see it in September for my birthday. I have to say, I loved it just as much the second time around!

A few observations:

The Playbills had a special sticker on the cover for BTTF Day! They also had a 1970s-inspired design, which wasn't a BTTF Day thing, that's just a promotion they're doing with the Playbills right now. BTTF has four total variants, although I wish they'd done the 1950s inspired one for the BTTF Day show! It would've been fitting.

Hearing the BTTF overture being played by a live orchestra is almost worth the price of admission just for that.

This was my first time seeing Roger Bart as Doc! (When I went in September, David Josefsberg, his understudy, played Doc.) Roger Bart loooooved throwing ad libs at Casey Likes (Marty) to make him break. Like, holy shit. David Josefsberg certainly was no slouch in that department either, but Roger would just throw the most absurd stuff at Casey. It was amazing.

I took a photo of my Nendoroid Marty very quickly during intermission, hence the blurriness. Not pictured: me frantically trying to reattach Marty's HEAD because it'd popped off in my bag.

This performance was advertised as having a special appearance by the actor who played Goldie Wilson in the first BTTF movie (and Goldie Wilson III in Part II), Don Fullilove! I was curious if he'd just appear after the show or if he'd be put into the show itself. They did put him into the actual show as a new character! When Mayor Goldie Wilson appeared at the end of the musical after Marty got back to 1985, he brought out his father, Demetrius Floyd "Fool's Gold" Wilson, played by Fullilove. I thought that was a creative way to work him into show! (And yes, he did get to say, "Mayor Goldie Wilson. I like the sound of that!" The audience went nuts!)

I'm not going to go into too much detail with this one because I think the final stunt with the Time Machine is really cool and works best if you're not expecting it, but at the very end, when Doc and Marty *ahem* go to the Heaviside Layer, the actors are inside the Time Machine! After the first time I saw it, I was wondering if they went through a hidden trapdoor or something so they weren't actually in the car, but nope, they're inside there for the whooooole thing. Casey even waved to the audience during it!

During the curtain call, a special unannounced guest came out to say a few words: the co-writer of the Back to the Future movies, Bob Gale! He talked a little about Don Fullilove's portrayal of Goldie and about BTTF Day (and also said that technically this was the BTTF Day Eve show.)

The BTTF Broadway IG account posted a video that has Don's appearance and part of Bob Gale's speech!

After the show, parked outside the theater was the "RE-ELECT MAYOR GOLDIE WILSON" van from the first movie, complete with the campaign recording! There were also people handing out special buttons for BTTF Day.

The Goldie Wilson van was parked near where the stage door was. I've never stage doored a show before, but I thought this would be a good first time. I believe I got all the signatures of the actors who came out to sign, although I'm extremely, horribly bad with faces so I'm not too certain whose signatures I got.

Don Fullilove also came out to sign, as well as give autographed 8x10 photos to the people waiting at the stage door! I didn't take one only because there didn't seem to be a lot of them and I'd feel awful if it was damaged in my bag during my trip home, but I did ask him to sign my Playbill. He said he hadn't seen his special insert in the Playbill yet so I showed him the one in mine.

Bob Gale also came out to stand with Don Fullilove in front of the Goldie Wilson van! He didn't have a sharpie out like the actors did so I wasn't sure if he was signing stuff. Instead I asked him if I could take a selfie with him and he very graciously said yes. That was pretty cool.

I had a great time, and I’m glad I was able to go! The show's a lot of fun and they really went to a lot of effort to make the BTTF Day show special. :)
