Training
Today went well, it was just a solid 3.5 hours of sparring with Bullet . Hard/fast sparring, medium sparring, and a little slow sparring. 1/3rd of the session was boxing/hands only, then the other 2/3s was mix of hands and feet tech.
I had a strategy/game planned out yesterday for todays training. IN short
Evade, move around and observe his general game plan/attack pattern, let him get aggressive, stay in C range.
stay somewhat close to him, use more head/body movement rather than footwork to evade, catch his timing and counter
start actively surging forward, take his space, lay down my own attacks while still countering his.
for the most part i was able to employ this plan, really see how it would work against him, he surprised me with some interesting tech, and showed me some new stuff he’s been trying out. His evasion, head movement has gotten considerably better. I remember back in the day I used to be able top punch him in the face at will, now i actually have to work for it. So overall good day today
List of things I’m working on for the next year
-being more aggressive with subs
-being more aggressive in scrambles
-working more on the armbar from guard and the sweep from getting stacked
-working on learning/using deep half guard more
-working on wrestling takedowns
-working on trips and sweeps from the clinch
-working on inverted guard
-working on north/south from both top and bottom
-working on chaining sub attempts together
Obstacles for training.
So I have really bad luck when it comes to my training. Since I was 15, every time I start going to a new gym or dojang there are a bunch of these little obstacles to get in my way. All sorts, family, traffic, sickness. But it'll happen a significant amount of times. Some time ago, me without a car had to rely on my brother to take me to the gym he went to. Well he got sick, for a month. When he finally got better he hurt his toe really bad, the morning he was finally going back to the gym, a well placed spatula slipped and fell, he dodged it, it bounced and managed to hit him directly on the toe with the handle.(for example) I'm in Thailand now, my gym is walking distance. There are no distractions. And I've been taking extra care of myself, bundling up at night or when going out. Not pushing myself too hard at the gym. And now, there's this freak rainstorm that has all the locals worried, people keep telling me that they've never seen it rain like this. It started a few days ago and doesn't seem to be letting up. I traveled halfway across the world and my luck seems to have followed me.
