Two families of #budgies have come home today ❤️ The baby of the green family is a pin-feathered ganju, two weeks old. Perfect age to start hand-feeding. He's soooo tiiiiny, though, even my smallest nesting box seems like a palace for him 😂 The baby of the blue-rainbow family is about five weeks old, fully-feathered, but not weaned; and very amenable to handfeeding. I think he's a boy, but will check for sure tomorrow. They also have 5 unhatched eggs in their nesting box. Will "pull" both babies from their nests tomorrow after they've had breakfast. ("Pulling from the nest" is an expression which is used. You don't literally *pull* them. The budgerigar, also known as the common parakeet or shell parakeet and usually informally nicknamed the budgie, is a small, long-tailed, seed-eating parrot. Budgerigars are the only species in the Australian genus Melopsittacus and are found wild throughout the drier parts of Australia where the species has survived harsh inland conditions for the last five million years. Budgerigars are naturally green and yellow with black, scalloped markings on the nape, back and wings, but have been bred in captivity with colouring in blues, whites, yellows, greys and even with small crests.
