The Beatles & BBC Group Watch

Hello Beatles friends inside my phone!

Join me on Saturday 4th November to watch various Beatles performances (and maybe some other stuff) in a fun group environment where we can all go insane together.

The show starts at 8:30pm GMT (check what time that is for you here). I will post a watchparty room link here on my blog at 8pm so that everyone can get set up/in case we have technical issues and I need to think of a back up.

The main show is 8:30 but they're showing some other Beatle related programming, which I am also open to watching with you all so please vote below if you are interested..

8:30pm GMT - The Beatles and the BBC: A look back at some key moments that saw the BBC document The Beatles’ journey, including such songs as She Loves You and All You Need Is Love.

9:35pm GMT - Sounds of Liverpool at the BBC: A look into the BBC’s archives for a selection of performances from some of Merseyside’s biggest and best-loved musical stars.

11:10pm GMT - Sgt Pepper's Musical Revolution with Howard Goodall: Howard Goodall explores why Sgt Pepper is still seen as so innovative, so revolutionary and so influential, with the help of outtakes and studio conversations between the band.

00:10am GMT - Arena: Documentary examining the turbulent life and career of the Beatles' manager Brian Epstein, who died in 1967 in mysterious circumstances.

*There's an hour break between sounds of liverpool and the pepper doc. i will probably watch the pepper doc regardless because i'm interested so you are welcome to join me, but idk it's a saturday, people have plans. i'm undecided on the brian doc but we'll see. anyway, vote on my poll x

do you guys want me to host the pepper doc also?

A Brief Romp in Isca's Backyard

(date: 6th March, 2024)

we're past the worst of Tropical Cyclone Season, which reminded me that perhaps the local butterflies would come back -- here's what i've found this week!

note: all photos were taken on my Samsung Galaxy A30.

firstly, this tiny (approx. 4mm) little guy in its early instar! It's definitely a member of Papilionidae, though I'm not fully sure that it's an orchard swallowtail (P. aegeus), because its colouration is a little different from other early instars I've seen so far. either way, i'm keen to watch how it develops!

this bigger lad (left) is a P. aegeus, but this one's in its late instar! sometime soon it should turn into a pupa, just like its companion (right) hanging out on another branch!

while I was outside, I spotted this poor orange just split open. perhaps someone or something couldn't wait for it to ripen up first. it's not a big deal, though -- our orange tree is ridiculously prolific.

while I was outside the other day, we found a small litter of eastern red lacewings (Cethosia cydippe) on some passionfruit vine growing under the orange tree. I didn't have my phone on me then, and when I went looking for them today, I couldn't find them as mum had pulled out the vine. so instead, I opted to do a drawing of one. (note: artist's impression was drawn in Clip Studio Paint.)

I also spotted these two beetles. I don't actually know what the one on the left is -- but the one on the right is definitely an Asian Ladybeetle (Harmonia axyridis). they were both sitting on different parts of the same tridax daisy (Tridax procumbens), which is one of the many invasive plants in my area (and in our backyard).

saw a bug today. tiny precious friend. he lives on a leaf now. because my house does not have good places for him to find food in it.

it is the time of year when birds forage extra food for their chicks! many more bird-watching chances because they come near the windows. will try add more foraging chances to the bird watching garden for next year.
