Before we get on with Virgo’s Maybe Babies, now is as good as time as any to clarify the true ‘test-y’ nature of Episodes 9 through 13. I know it’s weird to bring it up here rather than at the time, but Virgo is tied intricately into the risk of what I did.
If you recall, Reef died from ricin poisioning, which is interpreted in the game as Mummy’s Curse. I’d had this idea pretty much from the beginning, the fixed one that Mummy’s Curse had to be the group date death. Theoretically, I could have just rolled the victim when the time came during that date, clicked Die By in DebugEnabler, and had him die immediately with no riffraff. However, I wanted whoever died like that to have the moodlet and go through the decay, else the suffering wouldn’t ring true and there would be literally no foreshadowing, which I thrive off of. Besides, I’d already made a mod that makes the curse last for three days instead of three weeks, so I could be faithful to that ricin plan, and there was no sense in wasting it.
Ergo, I needed to roll the death for Mummy’s Curse three days in advance. As in, during the tail end of Episode 9, while Reef went back downstairs. Before Challenge #5 had happened.
An easy enough idea on its own - roll that death, have the murderer add a Herb to Reef’s Firecracker Tofu, add Cursed by the Mummy moodlet as he ate it - but it gave Breath Kiss an interesting dilemma that I both did and didn’t want to see play out. There were only two immunity slots in that challenge (three if you count the murderer, and two if murderer and innocent slots happened to overlap), and since it would be weird and redundant to poison Reef only to kill him off before it could take effect *side-eyes Bianca*, Reef automatically had one of them. As such, only the first person to find their chest would really have immunity - in this case, Laurel. The second placer would still gain the social benefit, but Reef had the spirit of the immunity: not being able to die yet.
And that meant that the person who came second could have been rolled to die that night, in theory.
Virgo could have died even while ‘immune’.
How’s that for fucked up?
