The Murder of Jolee Callan
Jolee Callan was an 18-year-old woman from Alabama, she was due to begin college. Jolee was a petite girl and known to dye her hair pink and purple, she was described as sweet, quirky, pretty and popular.
Jolee had previously dated 22-year-old Loren Bunner but the pair had recently separated. Friends commented that Bunner was possessive and jealous and one of Jolee's close friends recalled that when Jolee had attempted to break up with him before he had threatened to commit suicide if she did not continue dating him.
Chillingly Bunner's Instagram account shows Jolee's final movements- his first shows her in a car with the caption: 'On our way to go hiking <3.' Later posts show her walking her dog and photographing the view. Jolee had spoken with a friend the night before about how she was going on the hike with Bunner as a friend, jokingly saying 'If something happens to me, you’ll know who I was with.'
Bunner shot Jolee on the trail and pushed it off a cliff before driving home. During the drive, he called the police to report he had 'murdered his ex-girlfriend.' Authorities recovered Jolee's body, she had been shot in the back of the head and between the eyes.
Bunner pleaded guilty to murder claiming that he and Jolee had a suicide pact but that after shooting her he changed his mind about shooting himself. He received a 52-year prison sentence.
