“Do you think that if we’re quiet enough, we’ll be able to hear squirrels having sex?”
After receiving an abundance of “Oh, you’ve never pitched a tent before; Let me do it for you” and other absurd remarks, Holly was done. Mentally flipping those people off, she pitched up her tent correctly and refused help from those to asked. Yeah yeah yeah, she’s a Plastic. She can’t possibly have any camping knowledge, now can she? Wrong. As she finished up, she stood up straight and wipe her hands off on her jeans, admiring her handiwork when she felt someone’s eyes on her. “What? Never seen a girl pitch up a tent before?”
“Good morning, my little spring chickens! Up, up, up! Nature and it’s glory awaits!” Levay banged two pots together, “Tent check- I mean, head count!” He heard the unzipping of the tent he approached, “disgusting, filthy, adolescent.” He mumble to himself.
“I pitched my own damn tent! I did it! I’m a hero! If you need help with yours just call me an expert, I’ve got you.”
Ellie was out on the pier by the lake, half empty vodka bottle in hand. “So anyway, as I was saying—” she stopped cold, interrupted in her story again by a crack sound coming from deep in the thick woods. “Did you hear that?”
Here is some important information going into our Camping Trip! (Which starts tomorrow!)
There is no phone reception. This isn’t an educational trip, so cellular devices will be allowed. Good luck trying to get any signal though.
A tent is required. There is a strict rule of one-person-per-tent. There will only be a quick bed check at night before your chaperone goes to bed (usually early), and a head count when your group wakes up. (So any “guests” in your tent need to sneak out early or stay hidden.)
Meals will be served in the mess hall. A large wooden cabin will be where all meals are served. Cooks will be providing your meals, unless you are making yourself a snack.
Dinner at the mess hall is at 6:30pm and mandatory. How you spend your time at Chippewa State Park is entirely up to you, the only thing required is your attendance for dinner. It’s for a head count as well as bonding.
Chippewa State Park is the largest camping grounds in Illinois. This is not a tiny park, the rangers have asked students to keep to trails and use a buddy system if exploring.
There are many things to be excited for! A huge lake and a worn, cozy lake house, many flat fields, a rocky portion for intense hiking, and a large pool are just a few things to be excited for. Large wooded paths connect each section of the camp grounds, bring your tennis shoes because it’s a walk to get from place to place. At night, these paths will be illuminated by strung-up lights.
There are small fire pits at each campsite and a large pit outside the main hall. There will be nightly bonfires at the main fire pit, but you are free to not take part.
No alcohol or drugs allowed. There will be no bag check, but the rule is enforced. (Keep it hidden. Cough.)
Have fun! It is a bonding experience as well as a treat for the kids, so the teachers are trying to be relaxed and get to know the students.
[This is also to remind everyone that your groups are only for sleeping purposes and so that a teacher can make sure you don’t go missing at the park. You do NOT have to spend all of your time with them.]
We will be using the tag burnbookcamping. Please like when you have read this!
Emmy stopped in the hike when her partner whined breathlessly at her, making her roll her eyes as she paused in the hike. “God, why did you even decide to join me if you can’t keep up?” She asked the other, pulling a s tube of lipstick our of her pocket and reapply a layer onto her lips. “I’m even going slow for you,” she muttered to her unwanted partner. She was more than happy with going alone, but the stupid buddy system kept her from doing so and the teacher lumped the other onto her.
“Hey, can... can we talk? Please?” Luckily, the two were the only ones in the mess hall. She had to tell Nate about what happened with Kiki, about how it was an accident. She felt so awful about the entire thing. “I... I did something horrible and I feel so guilty about it. I’m trying to make everything right but I need to talk to you about it.”
