ijweiwjeiwje god i hope i don’t get hate for this. so first and foremost, my views in general are a little bit coloured by the fact that my sis has read the books and ranted about that to me in detail. so i’m aware that book!mal is very, very different from show!mal, lmao. i’m also aware of how the books end (if anyone wants to know feel free to message me) so that also kinda...skews my view on the whole romance.
i’ve read a LOT of ya in my life, lmao, a LOT so i’m well aware of the general harmful tropes that ya promotes and unhealthy relationships and understand people’s hesitance at why people like it so much. if you don’t ship it, that’s fine!! i also get that with the changes to mal in the show, from the books, that many people are gonna find their relationship to be more appealing. ALL THAT BEING SAID, i generally don’t care for the childhood friends to lovers arc and i don’t see any chemistry between mal and alina (partially bc of the way it’s written imo, like? the childhood friends to lovers trope can be done WAY better).
to me the darklina relationship is SO much more interesting — regardless of whether it’s unhealthy or morally wrong. that’s not to say i personally want to see it canonised in the show (which i don’t think it will be anyways so i don’t see why people are so annoyed), but that the scenes between the darkling and alina are some of my favourites. they make up the majority of alina’s interactions after she gets her powers, apart from genya, and also shape alina and her arc. i acc think its a bit ironic that people hate the darkling but love magneto IJEWJIWJEI like babes. its the same storyline. anyways, the darkling atm is the most interesting character apart from kaz, bc his actions drive the whole narrative and ben barnes is SUCH a good actor.
send me a ☕️ and a topic and i’ll talk about how i feel about it
