A story about a tired student in school trying to get by, but ultimately breaks down. During a late night study session the student falls asleep, only to get transferred to Genshin impact; and later on various other games. Getting transferred to Genshin wasn't really what they wanted as their life plan is ruined and now they have to live in a world without their family, friends and away from anything they were truly familiar with.

Entry.01: A Hold or a Slip.

Waking up, the first thing they noticed was the ache in their spine. Stretching trying to get rid of the pain, they notice two things; the bright warmth of the sun, and the vague sound of finches chirping. The latter gave away a bit of concern, at that time they were abroad studying at a college. The thing about the finch that they heard, it was specifically a crimson finch which was not native in the area they were currently inhabiting. And they would know, their fathers were avid bird watchers.
They got up in a panic, and felt their blood run cold. “Oh god no, no, no, no. Please no, fuck where am I? Where the fuck am I! No, no, calm down. Just breathe, it's going to be fine.” They said, breathing heavily. “Alright, calm down. Think, fucking think! How many hours did I sleep? How much time will I waste getting back home? I'm going to miss all the lectures this week. How the fuck am I even going to get back, where am I? Europe? I see pine trees and snow in the distance, and mountains covered in snow. Wait… aren't those the lamp grass thing-a-mabobs . Aren't they from Genshin, doesn't Aiko play that on her playstation back at the apartment.”
Laying back down, 5 seconds wasted. They decided to think whether or not this was some kind of dream, feeling their body everything was the same; no wallet, phone, keys, ID, fucking nothing. Feeling for anything, literally that could help them in this situation. Hitting their forehead in frustration, they felt a cool stone sticking out. Pulling on it made it hurt, as it felt like it was embedded within their very skull. As they briefly pulled on the stone, a transparent screen opened in front of them, “what in the fantasy transmigration manhwa bullshit is going on? Welcome player? You are one of the few lucky candidates…to be chosen to play in a game of survival. Complete tasks to level up, failure to do or comply will lead to punishments that may vary depending on the importance? Rewards may vary…”. Denial is all they could feel, that and anger.
They never believed in a higher being, but players? Punishments? What kind of scheme or prank is this really? Was this some kind of sick fucking joke, this is a waste of time. Time they never seem to ever have enough of. Reaching out their hands to touch the screen, seemingly to be somewhat interactable from the way the screen went to show a familiar scene. It looked like the one you would see in the game when you open the menu. They were fairly familiar with the mechanics of the game as their roommate often played in the living room, whilst they either cooked in the open kitchen, cleaned the room or just read books of many varieties.
Clicking on the inventory they saw, the many artifacts and weapons their friend had whaled and spent their time collecting. Abundance of food and overworld materials, but the many quest items their friend spent years on were missing. The tab for the serenitea pot was missing and was replaced with something called ‘home world’; filled with various clothing items and jewelries they and their friend owned. It had seemed many of their items were taken from their apartment in the real world, and were placed within the limitless inventory.
Other than that, everything seemed the same within the menu screen. That was until they opened the map. Remembering their friend had 100% exploration, it was a surprise that the map didn't only just show 0% exploration on all available regions. But, the map looks far different then the one in their memory. Instead of the guili plains being a large grassy plain with ruins scattered around, there were semi large buildings and homes scattered across the area. A bazaar lay waiting in the heart of it all, one thing they also noticed about the area as well was the rather large intricately made building situated between two mountains. Zooming out to see the name of the area, there was no dihua marsh nor was it named the guili plains. A new name was strewn across the whole area, the Guili assembly. Looking further the snowy area seemed larger than it was, and there was no mondstat city either.
“You gotta be kidding me, this is definitely that stupid gacha game Aiko plays. But it's not the fucking same, Aiko said that the Guili assembly got destroyed 3000 or so years before the actual timeline started. Great, now my info is useless. Anything I could've used is out of the window, I can't even read any of the readily available books, they're in another fucking language! And I'm far from any type of civilization” they said, frustration evident as tears start to form in their eyes. They felt so helpless, they're stuck. They had nothing to help them, it's not fair. Why now, just when it was getting better. Everything just had to go wrong, what the hell did they do to deserve this.
“Alright calm down, think. It’s going to be fine, it's only been 6 minutes and 23 seconds. What I need to do is change clothes. If I'm seen in strange clothing, I might be classified as an outlander like the traveler and god knows what will happen then”. Thankfully for them, Aiko's wardrobe had many different styles of clothing. Props and clothes for cosplay, Antique and vintage styled clothing and of course modern day clothing. Picking out clothing to help blend in wasn't easy either,as they couldn't simply gauge what era of fashion the current Teyvat was in.
Managing an outfit out of the the dozen of clothes and planning a possible safe route by looking at the map; The area which would be soon be known as Mondstat looked to be torn away by countless battles anemo and cryo marred the land, a far cry to the peaceful and free lands they once knew. So their current route was to go through the outer bounds of Dragonspine, if they encountered any thieves or elemental beings. Their safest bet was to just run.
The system had yet to set any tasks. Getting up and eating some food from their inventory, they set off on the route they planned. Using the pins, they created a path that they could follow. They just simply didn't want to get lost, it didn't help that the terrain was unfamiliar to them. Two dings break through the silence, two bars showed up in the bottom of their vision; Achievement Completed: “Baby's first steps” and Achievement Completed: “That's weird…That's suspicious”. The second achievement looked strange, they had always had exceptional hearing but they couldn't hear the sound of any footsteps. In fact, they couldn't hear anything. It was eerily quiet, not the chirping of birds nor the sound of the winds breezing past them. Strange as the land nearest to them had been torn away by the elements.
As suddenly as it became quiet, the sound broke through violently like a bursting dam. Winds poured towards them making it hard to breathe, a cacophonous voice rang within the area. A residual shiver ran down their spine. One word echoed through their head as they shifted their head towards the voice, danger. They knew that whoever was there could've killed them with just a wave of their hand, but they didn't and it was possibly an act of mercy, hopefully. The presence they encountered once again spoke, this time in a lowered tone open seeing them. “Who thou mortal, to traverse around such a desolate place, doth thou desire to meet thy end? A child of man should’st not be out to hither. Here is torn by war and famine, I, Decarabian. God of storms and leader of the Tempest Children. One only wishes to bid, what is the reason for thy travels?”
Our protagonist froze at the name. Decarabian, the God of storms and lord of the tower. A tyrant that trapped his people within an area surrounded by a wind barrier. His title was different but who else could it have been, he was the one who fought Andrius for several years. “Ah, one is apologetic. Thou must have been quite perplexed by one's decorative vocabulary.” Decarabian said as he must've seen the troubled look that the person held as he continued. “One's followers had said that one often appears quite hard to speak to, especially when one uses language from a forgotten time. But, one has dawdled enough. Tell ones illuminated being, what is thy name.” Thinking for a moment, an alias would be better wouldn't it? A few things was the fact that they were in a familiar, but also unfamiliar place. They knew the lore, as their friend often spoke of it during dinner time. If what they know is true, then it's best to stay hidden.
“I was not given a name at birth and often lived as a nameless individual, I have no home either. But, I have a great many acquaintances. You could say they themselves provided me a name, you may call me Barbēlō.” deciding to use their friends' nicknames within the game. Decarabian proceeded to ask “Barbēlō? An interesting name, may I call you Barbie-”. “No” a fast and a curt reply left their mouth, showing a face of destained. They had no qualms with Barbie as a character, but they did have a past with the said character as a child. They just didn't want to have to be reminded of a certain event from their past. Having Decarabian call them that also reminded them of their families teasing, a bittersweet feeling gnawing at the back of their mind as she is reminded of their family.
Sensing their growing corcern and sadness Decarabian decided to change the subject, asking them if they wished to follow him to his colony of followers. Whilst he wondered, what happened to them before they met? Futhermore, they now known as Barbēlō. Proceeded to agree to stay for a bit of time before leaving to futher wander Teyvat. That was when they set off; both with silent questions hanging over their heads, and various emotions drifted through the wind that passed them by.
