Being from Chicago, I enjoy a good hot dog and who doesn’t enjoy comfort food? So it only makes sense for the Burnt Truck, a comfort food truck, and Dogzilla, a hot dog truck, would combine forces.
Burntzilla is primarily known for their sliders and slider-sized hot dogs. It is relatively small, but they have a pretty nice corner location that faces out on the road, so you really can’t miss it!
As comfort food, their food has that familiarity to it with just enough of a twist that it won’t pull people too much out of their zone, and they come in sizes small enough that you can try multiple items. They come on these soft hawaiian buns, and each burger/dog has its own uniqueness. The Yaki burger appeals to my love for ramen (as some of my readers might know from my Chicago ramen article) and has a nice amount of kick to it to keep things fresh. The signature Dogzilla pays its respects to the Californian taste with avocado in it mixed with a nice savory sweetness.
Their menu is pretty small, so after a few visits, you can easily get through the whole menu, but they do put on a list of specials that they switch out every so often. So with successive visits (if you like their specials), they keep things fresher.
I like their tots, though I am not sure where else to get fresh tots in the area, which are nice and crispy. Pretty much what you can expect from decent tatter tots, so don’t quite expect the same twist that the dogs and burgers get. If there is one criticism, their soups tend to be a little on the greasier side.
I highly recommend stopping by if you have a light appetite for some high quality burgers and dogs!
Let me just slide these into your feed 😏 But seriously, @burntzilla is so good, and the sweet tea with raspberry purée is 👌#moderneats #sliders #food . . . . . #burntzilla #lunch #yummy # (at Burntzilla)
BurntZilla started as a union between two of the top food trucks in Orange County. The restaurant was built on the Burnt Truck’s modern take on classic comfort foods and Dogzilla’s Asian inspired twist on the traditional American Hot Dog. They still use the trucks for catering and events. However, fans of the trucks can now get their fix at their restaurant at the Walnut Village Center in Irvine.
