That is….real sad. :(
yeah, it was like they had read a bunch of fanfiction (none of which was well-written) and tried to piece together the original plot with that. it was not good. i think that the creators thought the ideas in the books were good but didn’t understand what it was that made it moving or interesting.Â
the majority of the dialogue was laughable, and the directing/acting (ESPECIALLY THE MAN IN BLACK, WHAT THE FUCK??) was not convincing.Â
the music was outright hokey. there were SO many overused and dead visual tropes that were never worth using.Â
SO MANY FLASHBACKS.Â
there was a passing familiarity with the source material, but it ended up not being explained in a way that people who hadn’t pored over every page would not be confused by. hell, i love the books and i was confused.Â
there are only so many times that you can have one character dramatically remove their cloak-analogue and throw it at a subordinate before it becomes silly (zero is the correct number btw--this is lazy writing)
the changes that they made to story story were bad (particularly Roland’s motivations--like wow).
the exposition was painfully contrived. it did not show; it told. i ended up caring for none of the characters and was relieved when it ended. just painful.
anyway, i’m confident that if i adapted and shot ONE SCENE from the books, it would turn out better than that entire garbage heap that was that movie.
BUT yes, dinner and chatting with @dairathian was really nice. they are a Good and a Sweet. <3
so uh......fun fact but the voretex at the end of car boys is not some fancy shit nick cooked up for the finale its literally there in the map and debatably replicable
