Lan Sizhui’s an interesting one, actually, because while I love his character and think a lot about him thematically, I don’t actually think about him as a person that much?
I love how he acts as a final sign that protecting the Wen Remnants was worth it, and I love how he’s was actually a part of them and I love how that’s used in his story, I love his dynamic with the Juniors, I love how he and the rest of the Juniors are a sign of hope for the cultivation world’s future, of open-mindedness and breaking through the prejudice that defines so much if it at the present, and how Lan Wangji played such a big part in shaping that – and I also love how his character embodies so much of Wei Wuxian’s own philosophies, of letting go and not letting resentment and trauma define you, and how that furthers that theme. He has so many reasons to hate the cultivation world for what they did to his family, but he doesn't at all, and stays compassionate and kind. There’s something to be said about how through that, the last legacy of the Wens is one of kindness, not of hate. And that’s so, so powerful, and his character is, too.
And yes he’s done nothing wrong in his entire life
There’s so much to say about him, and I love his character so much, but my mind just doesn’t go there much? But when I think about him there’s just so much there, and it’s great to have to think about characters you don’t often do – that’s one of the things so great about these ask games.
