This is Aymara. Her eyes say murder but her tiny cheepcheeps... probably also say murder, actually. She always makes this cute tiny sound when I go to take her out of her mews, and then later when I put her back and give her food, she starts seriously screaming to tell me to stay away from her mice. A misty road journeying up the migratory path of the Águila Cuaresmera, or Swainson’s hawk (Buteo swainsoni), by way of the Biological Research Station run by Fundacion Rio Cócora, where the movements, populations, nesting behaviors, reproductive status, and biometrics of these incredible raptors are currently being studied. _ At 23,000km (14,000miles) the swainson’s hawk is likely the longest migrant of any North American raptor. _ Veterinary care and local education outreach is also provided by the founder, Dr. Pedro Bahamon, a true lover and protector of these hawks. _ I joined Dr. Bahamon on an education outreach program to a small school nestled high in the mountains near an enormous waterfall to talk with kids about the amazing birds that live in and pass through this area and why we should protect them. _ #buteoswainsoni #hawk #swainsonshawk #wildlife #raptor #protect #respect #education #conservation #wearealltrulywild #giantloopmoto #royalenfield #colombia #riocombeima #motoadventure #adventure #advrider (at Tolima, Colombia)

We had a work day at the bird house today and did a lot of chores around the place, so we ended up finding a few grasshoppers in the yard. We tried to feed one to Aymara... she's a Swainson's hawk and one of the common names people know them by is actually "grasshopper hawk," on account of all the insects they eat, so we figured she'd enjoy the treat. She did not. She mostly looked at us like we were crazy and did not appreciate the gesture at all.
