THE GMMTV MASCOTS

I just saw an interfan on TikTok give GMMTV glowing credit for coming up with the mascots and you'll forgive me if I jump up and down like a Looney Tunes character about it for a second because no no no no NO THEY DIDN'T.

They literally just copied Butterbear.

"Who's Butterbear?"

A highly beloved religious figure in Thailand who makes more money than most successful pop stars.

That's the whole story. It's the story every time. GMMTV doesn't initiate trends. They're under a corporation, so of course they don't. They see success elsewhere and piggyback off someone else's risk so they don't have to take risks themselves that will make their shareholders do frowny faces. The first BL series was done by someone else first, the first GL series was done by someone else first, and the whole mascot idea was done by someone else first. Even their first BL series, "SOTUS," wasn't GMMTV's production initially. It was an indie production struggling for financial support so GMMTV signed on to co-produce.
