Adam told me about some cool flowers that he'd seen in town, so I picked up a bunch of them (and some others) the other day. My ACTUAL plan had been to plant them around our mailbox, but because mailboxes down here are all these giant towers with fat bases, the concrete of the base went wide about 2" uber ground all around it, and I couldn't possibly plant anything there unless it was in a raised bed as well. . . So, I adapted my plan! The area around our walkway has largely been surrounded by sand (which you can see still is the situation for 50% of our tired yard.) I dug that mess of sand and weeds up, and planted these beautiful ladies around the walkway! . . Added some mulch to cover up the ugly soil, and now I'm debating how to create a border for the mulch without breaking the bank, since this house is - after all - just a rental, and I'm never going to get any of this money back.
