Finally found time to add more items to my store (link in bio)! Like this whimsical locket featuring a Spring Azure Butterfly with rhodolite and tanzanite gemstones against a splash copper background. Splash copper pieces are truly unique. They showcase the contrasting elements of natural beauty and manmade processes in harmony with one another. The metallic sheen and vibrant shades of pink, orange, purple and blue form organic, intricate shapes. Splash copper is created when copper is heated up to a staggering 2,200 degrees fahrenheit and “splashed” onto a piece of metal to cool. Pieces are then dunked in trough of water to speed up the cooling process and after a second heating, the splash copper forms a colorful layer of patina which looks lovely and protects the copper beneath it. Locket featuring a YellowBarred butterfly and Mozambique garnet. This commission was so meaningful it made everyone cry including me! My friend wanted me to make a butterfly locket for his sister. He wanted a yellow butterfly and the birthstone for January. I picked out the prettiest yellow butterfly that I had that could would fit in the locket I chose. I looked at the specimen tag to see the butterfly info and noticed the year 1974. I thought it was cool that it was a butterfly from the 70s so when I sent a photo of the finished piece to my friend, I included the specimen tag. To my shock it turned out that 1974 was the birth year of his sister! The story behind the meaning of the yellow butterfly is a personal one between the siblings so I won't go into the details. Just know that it's full of love and powerful enough to make anyone who hears the story, get emotional. It's days like this that remind me why I do what I do. It's not for fame, it's not for money. It's to make something that symbolizes the love and magic that still exists despite all the pain and gloom. And to share that with those it can help... man, there's no other feeling like it.
