The compact, clump-forming perennial Liatris spicata ‘Kobold’ (button snakewort) has narrow, grass-like foliage and these erect spikes of feathery flowers. It is useful for the front of a border and is popular with pollinators.

The seed heads of Liatris spicata 'Floristan Violett' (button snakewort) provide winter interest and shelter for the overwintering insect population in this border planting. In late summer and early autumn this prairie herbaceous perennial produces bright purplish-pink flower spikes.
