my hc right now is that buzzingstar has a microchip-adjacent implant in his neck that lets cobs track him and that cobs is able to buzz/shock at will; it was originally for training/discipline purposes

so basically, after mepad (Ebonyspark), Cobs switched from cats to dogs because his stupid ass cats woukd not listen for shit (first two died, 3GS has been locked in the closet for god knows how long, Buzzingstar and Ebonyspark ran away, and Redshadow died. he cannot catch a break with these cats)

So every character after Ebonyspark (5S + 5C and beyond) are all dogs. The difference with MephoneX though is that X is a literal hellhound that can suck the life out of living things and only appear to said specific thing. Where Cobs acquired a hellhound is not information i am allowed to disclose (Just go with it guys. id ont know)

i've never actually explained buzzingstar's story omg i swear i did

under the cut :)

so basically he's an ex-kittypet, formerly owned by Cobs, who is a very rich very prestigious cat breeder who breeds cats specifically for show.

Buzzingstar is a purebred Balinese and the best looking of his litter (Cobs adopted out the others) and he was supposed to be very docile and polite but he turned out to be. not that. and absolutely hated being handled and just was not having it.

Obviously this didn't go down well with Cobs and so there was a lot of not good things that happened that i don't really need to explain BUT . Buzzingstar ended up taking one of Cobs' newest kittens, a maine coon (who will end up being Ebonyspark/Mepad) and ran off to the forest.

How the OTHER cats got there and how Cobs can deactivate them i am not sure yet
