Breakfast with the #BuzzyBuddies! For the first time ever they are: A. Having hamster paté (it is my mush with cooked ground chicken) B. Being quiet and good Today I am working from home (and so is Hamdad - but he always does!) and boy are these little bees so busy and BUZZY! I can't get anything done over the sounds of tussle rustle playtime 😂💗. Meet Anthidium Manicatum, aka #Mani, the first of the #BuzzyBuddies to share today! He is a sweet long hair golden male who is just a needy smoosh of a toot. He cried a little bit during his photoshoot which made him all the more endearing. Anthidium manicatum bees are more commonly called "wool carder" bees. They are solitary bees that nest in cavities. These bees have elaborate nesting habits which is part of where they get their name - they scrape the fibres from plants, like Wooly Lamb's Ear, to create nests for their offspring. Bees are absolutely a special interest of mine, so I am thrilled to bits to be able to share bee facts with you all! Wool carder bees are some of my favourite - they are just such sweet little things. Bees often get a bad reputation because people don't realise they are very different from wasps. I would love if you all indulged me in a few bee-centric (I'll include hams too, I have a bee ham costume!) posts. #Mani is such a good big brother. He's helping #Rubi groom her face and only stealing some of her pouch snacks. You can tell she's loving it too. 😂💗

#Jack and I cannot wait to share her beautiful babies tomorrow. That's the plan at least. I grabbed photos so I look forward to sharing them! On September 5th, #Jack welcomed her second, and Meow welcomed his first litter! Momma Jack is doing so well and is a rockstar momma. I knew after her amazing first litter (#GreatBigPupseas) she would do fantastically for number two and of course she is. They're the #BuzzyBuddies and will be named after the taxonomy names of different bees. I looooove bees and can't wait to share that love with you all! 🐝 These pups are all long hair and I should get some recessive dappled. I might be able to test Jack for ED if the stars line up. 😊 So far she and Millie have the same number of pups (can be counted on two hands) but here is to hoping she has more males than Millie! We should know once they're a bit bigger, or if they grace me with rolls in the nest to expose nipple lines. This will be Jack's last litter, and she will be retired. As she is Hamdad's favourite I expect she will stay here at SBH but we will see. Our very last baby is also my keeper - meet Andrena #Cressonii, a long haired extreme dilute black male! He is such a cutie and the biggest of all the pups. He is named after the solitary dotted mining bee, Andrena Cressonii. It is the only species of Holandrena to live in North America. They are distinguished by a very distinct pronotum (this is a plate like piece that covers their thorax/chest). Cressonii will be staying here at SBH. I was very excited to see ED in this litter as the odds were low and I wasn't sure if Jack even carried ED. I'm glad to see she does! 🥰 Welcome #BuzzyBuddies! One of my favourite pups - meet Halictus Rubicundus, aka #Rubi! Rubi is a long haired black recessive dappled female who looks just like her papa Meow Meow! She's a bundle of cutes and will be flying out with ChickieB (Chiquita), Corriedale and Reuben to BC. She's going to live with @bluenose.hams! Halictus Rubicundus is also called the Orange-Legged Furrow Bee. It is a species of sweat bee. Unlike the other bees so far, it has varying social behaviours which depend on the climate. In some circumstances they may be solitary bees, but in others they may have a small nest with workers present. This litter does only have two pups available to our waitlist, and I will be contacting people within the next few days.
