bloodweave but it's contention over cher's song 'believe' in which gale loves it for the combination uplifting beat and heartwrenching lyrics, and astarion hates it because of the introduction to autotune and how overplayed the song is

more bw music hc posting. this has kinda just turned into tiny little worldbuilding snippets for one of my modern AUs. anyway.

gale had an upbringing of travelling far and wide with morena and then as an adult just himself to see all kinds of different concerts and music festivals of varying genres, and would have tons of shirts to prove it.

whereas astarion was never in the position to afford such luxury, and so would either sneak into local gigs or steal CDs and play them on his shitty CD player, then later pirate music to listen to on his MP3 player, something he would still do into his 40s out of habit even if he could now afford it.

i feel both gale and astarion would very much be an 'i must collect and own the physical music' kinda guy, but gale is more a vinyl collector with walls of limited edition records, whereas astarion has stolen or burned CDs and digital files of his favourite albums or even music he doesn't care about.

gale wouldn't like subscription services and would manage just fine without them. he would rather physically own his music and videos/DVDs. he is fine with modern technology whenever he'd need to use it, but would own lots of older tech that he'd take immaculate care of. most of it would have belonged to morena after she 'gifted' them to him (he'd 100% get his hoarding tendencies from her)

astarion meanwhile would only use subscription services cuz he managed to rope various ppl he knows to share their passwords with him; he would never pay for any of that shit himself. he'd enjoy modern tech and their capabilities but would still rather pirate digital files and burn CDs/DVDs himself cuz it's easy enough and he's been doing it for decades.

i can see him moving around a lot so a lot of his old music that he physically owned would be lost or abandoned, so he would enjoy physically owning real, official music but he'd tell himself never to grow attached because he will leave again and can always just steal or burn a new one.

the mp3 player would be the only thing astarion could truly call his own, dangling around his neck, and he'd be adamant never to lose it. there'd be songs on there for decades associated with profound moments in his life.

back on my bloodweave 80s music posting: those two absolutely grew up on top of the pops and i bet the very first time they realised how similar their music taste was because they could list all the different number ones from each week in specific years because those years were 'great for music' ohhhh i'm sick. they're so disgusting. they WOULD watch totp reruns together snuggled on the couch ohhhhhmygodddddd

i'm trying to decide if gale and astarion would be lady gaga fans. i'm biased cuz she's literally one of my all time fave artists ever. and i think they would.

but specifically astarion would be into the fame monster / artpop / chromatica eras

whereas gale would be fond of joanne / a star is born / the tony bennett collabs
