2020 has almost come to a close, a melted ice cream of a year, 2020 has been an experience for most of us and honestly I’m looking forward to the new year - maybe very little will change, but at least with the change comes hope for things to be better, with new presidents, created vaccines and maybe getting around to the things we missed this year (looking at you the Olympics).
Here are some books I’m looking forward to next year.
The Anthropocene Reviewed by John Green (May 2021) - a collection of essays about the human-centred world we live in, this book continues on from the excellent podcast of the same name. John Green is very good at storytelling and I think in a book like this, that will continue to shine.
The Kingdoms by Natasha Pulley (May 2021) - an incredible author who I’d recommend to anyone who likes a book with a sense of the odd, The Kingdoms see the author return with a plot around time travel, amnesia and finding yourself. This book is going to be such a good read, I think I can already tell!
The Burning Girls by C.J. Tudor (February 2021) - C.J. Tudor has had an incredible run of great thrillers recently with The Chalk Man and The Other People and their new book sounds just as intriguing. A story with keywords such as ‘excorcism’, ‘ghosts’ and ‘villages’ I am there for it - it sounds like a read that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins-Reid (May 2021) - Set in early 80′s California, the story sees the Riva family’s house go up in flames but not before secrets and scandal comes to the surface. I absolutely adored Daisy Jones & The Six and everyone loves Evelyn Hugo, I really am looking forward to this one.
As Far As You’ll Take Me by Phil Stamper (February 2021) - From the author of ‘The Gravity Of Us’ Phil Stamper returns with a new book about Marty whose just moved to London to do his dream job but it doesn’t seem to be his dream life and how he figures that out. I absolutely loved The Gravity Of Us and I can’t wait to read this one too.
Just Like That by Gary D. Schmidt (January 2021) - I read Orbiting Jupiter a while ago now, but let me tell you, that is a beautifully sad book and though I don’t wish to obliviate my heart into a thousand pieces, I will risk it for this author. A story of two different people who become friends in the middle of very difficult and very strange times for the both of them.
