RP: Good Thing She Doesn't Have A Glass Jaw
In which S_K and Requiem aren't lying.
Starring: S_K, Requiem, Frances
[15:50:26] * S_K 's eyes follow the Auditor as she walks away from the picnic. S_K remains in hiding for now, waiting for the coast to be clear entirely. [15:52:02] * Frances still stands, staring into the distance. She seems not to notice Req shaking her [15:52:32] <Requiem> Frances, come on. Snap out of it! [15:53:11] * Requiem continues to shake her to no avail [15:53:25] * S_K lays a gloved hand upon the bark of the tree, her fingers digging in briefly. She lowers her hand again, wiping the bits of bark off on her red coat and steps forward into the clearing, eyes pinned on Frances. [15:54:52] * S_K stops just a yard from the blanket, her hand twitching at her side. [15:55:50] * Requiem is too busy trying to wake Frances to even notice S_K [15:55:51] * S_K narrows her eyes when Frances even fails to acknowledge her and lunges forward, putting her putting her weight behind her fist and connecting it with Frances' jaw. [15:56:59] * Frances is knocked to the ground by the force of the blow, yelping in shock [15:57:19] <Frances> Augh-what the- [15:58:04] <S_K> I shouldn't have expected any better from a citizen. [15:58:07] * Frances clutches at her already bruising face, shielding herself with her other hand. [15:58:32] <Frances> S_K, what in God's name- [15:58:34] * Requiem stares at Frances for a moment in stunned silence, then looks to S_K with fury [15:58:51] * S_K holds her one hand in the other, rubbing over the knuckles, gently cracking the bones. [15:58:57] <Frances> Why would you DO that?? [15:59:30] <S_K> Did you think I would never find out? [16:00:23] <Frances> Find out? Find out what? I haven't done anything! [16:00:40] * S_K spits on the ground in disgust. [16:01:29] <S_K> That you betrayed me. I saw it all happen right here. How you conversed with an Auditor. [16:01:35] * Frances looks to Req for help, stopping short when she sees the other girl's expression [16:01:58] <Frances> An Auditor... S_K, are you drunk? [16:02:19] <S_K> Filthy sleeper agent. There is a specific torment someone used back in my days at the State when - [16:02:48] * S_K's voice trails off, looking at Frances in shock and anger. [16:03:18] <Frances> Req, what the hell is going on? [16:03:23] <S_K> Even if I was I would still recognize this for what it is, Miss Graye. [16:03:42] * Frances picks herself up off the ground [16:03:45] * Requiem clenches her fist and takes a deep breath, trying to quell her rage for a moment [16:04:04] <Frances> You're drunk, S_K, and you never liked me. I know you don't like Req either. [16:04:09] <Frances> "Aberrants" Bah. [16:04:21] <Frances> But if you don't like me seeing her, well [16:04:31] <Frances> Making up stories like this and- and- [16:04:42] <Frances> and ASSAULTING me, for no reason- I... [16:04:57] <Frances> Req, why are you looking at me like that? [16:05:14] * Frances steps back from Req slightly [16:05:22] <Requiem> She's... telling the truth. There was an Auditor here. And you spoke to her. [16:05:58] <Frances> No... there wasn't. We were sitting here having tea, and then S_K here decided to interrupt. [16:06:17] <Frances> I should know. I was there. [16:06:43] <Requiem> And so was I. And so was that Auditor. She stood right there. How can you not remember...? [16:06:53] <S_K> This is a pathetic attempt at a lie. I may be blind in one eye but that doesn't make me blind entirely. [16:06:59] <Frances> Remember what? Are you BOTH drunk? [16:07:20] <Frances> There was nothing there! It hasn't even been five minutes since we sat down! [16:08:07] <Frances> If this is some ridiculous idea of payback, Req... [16:08:24] <Frances> I'm sorry I ran off, but this isn't the right way to go about getting back at me. [16:08:28] <Frances> It's not funny. [16:08:54] <Requiem> This isn't a joke! And it's been far longer than five minutes. [16:09:26] <Frances> Stop it! You're genuinely beginning to frighten me, Req. [16:09:38] <S_K> Your sense of humour displeases me greatly, Miss Graye. If this isn't humour then it's greatly- [16:09:49] <S_K> disrespectful towards me. [16:10:16] <Frances> Humor?? Do I appear to be laughing, S_K? [16:10:57] <S_K> Don't expect a Ward to understand humour, Miss Graye... It doesn't end well, especially not for you. [16:11:39] <Requiem> Shut up! Both of you! No one is playing a game here. [16:12:19] <Requiem> This is....This is serious. [16:12:54] * Frances is at a total loss for words, staring at them both with a mixture of rage and confusion [16:13:40] <Requiem> S_K, she was completely unresponsive to me when that Auditor was here. She just stared ahead blankly [16:13:56] <Frances> What the hell are you- [16:14:20] <Frances> I- I can't believe this. [16:14:24] * S_K's angry expression drops and is immediately replaced with worry. Her skin pales even further. [16:15:09] <S_K> If what you're saying is true, Requiem... [16:16:06] <S_K> There are plenty of reasons why anyone should be afraid of Auditors... [16:16:26] <S_K> Miss Graye was being controlled by her, it seems... The blank stare, unresponsive to anyone but the Auditor... It fits descriptions I've heard... I don't know if they're accurate... [16:16:36] <Frances> Excuse me? [16:17:44] <S_K> Th-.. They get into your head... They focus your brain only on their face and voice... [16:18:09] * S_K starts to get a dry mouth, the pace of her breath increasing by sheer fear. [16:18:13] * Frances goes silent, listening [16:20:44] <Frances> W-wait [16:20:58] <Frances> I've heard of something... similar. [16:22:29] <Frances> Just a story, though. They claimed that Auditors were capable of reading one's mind, or their dreams [16:22:53] <Frances> I looked into it myself. There's no technology capable... [16:23:04] <Frances> This is ridiculous. [16:23:16] <S_K> Miss Graye... [16:23:44] <S_K> These are Auditors we are talking about. The men and women who have even the most powerful of Facilitators and Generals in the palm of their hand at the flick of a finger. [16:24:46] <Frances> I know what an Auditor is, S_K. Believe me. I know better than anyone alive. [16:25:04] <Frances> If they had that kind of ability, they wouldn't need to- [16:25:16] <S_K> Then you should know better than to throw the word 'ridiculous' in the same sentence as Auditor. [16:25:55] * Frances glowers, but does not offer a retort [16:26:44] <Frances> As much as I hate to say it, I seem to have no choice but to assume this is a possibility. [16:26:51] <Frances> However ludicrous it may be. [16:27:23] <Frances> You both saw something, and while you, S_K, may not be my most trusted companion, Req...is. [16:27:48] * Frances turns her gaze to Req, sorrow in her eyes [16:27:58] <Frances> You would not lie to me. [16:28:00] <S_K> You may accuse me of many things, Miss Graye, but lying is not one of them. [16:28:22] <Requiem> No, I wouldn't. Not about something like this... [16:29:05] <Frances> In that case, something must be done. Assuming the cause of this lies with me. [16:30:18] <Frances> If it is technology, it can be broken. If it is arcane, it can be dispelled. If it is... [16:30:32] <Frances> ...psychological. It can be undone. Perhaps. [16:31:13] <Frances> Don't forget that we have a great deal of resources newly at our disposal, S_K. [16:32:02] <S_K> The problem must be narrowed... We cannot waste time with technology if the problem lies with the - [16:32:27] <S_K> Aber-... Magically inclined people. We know too little but yes... We have time and resources. [16:32:33] <Frances> If the Auditor you and the others have seen is truly manipulating me, it must be removed. [16:32:42] <Frances> I do not care by what means. [16:32:53] <Frances> Auditors are not perfect, nor are they immortal. [16:33:41] <Frances> They do make mistakes. It's the only reason I still live. [16:34:30] <S_K> Or the Auditor believes she has so much control over you she is playing a game... [16:34:59] <Frances> It hardly matters, S_K. When Auditors play games, people die. [16:35:06] <Frances> I will not be a pawn. [16:35:34] <Frances> I suggest we return to someplace secure. And I also suggest that both of you keep watch on me until such time as a solution is discovered. [16:35:59] <Frances> Hallucination or not, this must not happen again. [16:36:06] <S_K> Remain in pi-TEC for the time being... I must put you under house arrest once more. [16:36:21] * Frances curls her lip over her teeth [16:36:36] <Frances> Would that I could object. [16:36:51] <S_K> It is for our own safety. [16:37:09] <Requiem> I... I'll go with you. Back to pi-TEC... [16:37:23] <S_K> I recognize that you are in need of friendly companionship at times... I will not stop Req- [16:37:49] <Requiem> You won't be able to look after her on your own anyways. [16:37:56] * S_K nods briefly at the suggestion. [16:38:00] <Frances> I'm afraid she's correct... [16:38:52] <S_K> For now it's our only choice... Let's go in case she returns... [16:39:47] <Requiem> I'll need to get my things from Katton. We should stay there for the night. Just to be safe. [16:40:03] <Requiem> We don't want her to follow us back to pi-TEC [16:41:14] <Frances> After you...
