Careful hands pulled an unsuspecting Vivienne into the office Lusine had chosen as a hiding spot, and quickly shut the heavy door behind them both.
“I had no idea you were here too, Vivi,” the dancer chirped, and gave her friend a kiss on the cheek. “I hope I didn’t startle you too bad. The moment I spotted you, I figured you needed saving as well.”
Merrily she went about the room--which was lined with such an obnoxious amount of teak wood it may as well have been a ship--searching high and low for something of interest. The search ended when Lusine found a silver cigarette case in the desk drawer belonging to the host of the drab party the two women had unfortunately been invited to.
Lusine offered a cigarette to Vivienne as she set herself up with one between her lips. Going from arriving on the arm of a rather rude patron, to hiding away in one of the manor’s many rooms, she was desperate for anything that could take the edge off. Layers of blue silk rippled like waves from her hips as she moved to the large window that held a spectacular overhead view of a park.
“More and more, I find myself spending more time looking out windows at strangers than those I actually know,” she said. “How could this be more entertaining than a soirée held by a Count?”
