Honestly I like the messiness of the nein and the unrequitedness of so many of their emotions to a degree.

Like call me crazy but sometimes I think ships are better when the love isn't equally returned.

Caleb has so much love for everyone in the nein and he regularly shows it, at the same time there's not this expectation on his end that it's reciprocated and that makes him such a complex and interesting character.

He loves jester, and that love will stick around. But at the same time he's found a happiness and love in his life that means the love he has for her doesn't have to be tragic. He's aware enough to know that if something were to have bloomed between them she would've sacrificed her own happiness for him and because he knows that his goals do not in any way match hers and he's unwilling to compromise on them, nothing ever truly comes of his feelings.

Despite it all he finds someone he doesn't have to compromise for. He gets fulfilling romantic love where both he and his partner get to achieve the things they want without sacrifice. A relationship built on mutual support and trust.

And this is without even talking about the complex knot that is widobrave, his initial crush on fjord, the comradery he found with Beau, the interactions with Molly we never got to see play out, his bonding with yasha. I'm honestly hoping we see him play off caduceus more since I think they were a bit more disconnected than others in the table top game (they had their moments).

The way he and essek slowly intertwin is truly something I loved to watch. Subtle yet deep in a way that can often be hard to find in media.

Caleb's love for the nein and the way he handles it is so incredibly compelling to me. And I think that's why I do like how Canon went so much. Why I personally don't feel the need to entertain "what ifs.

Hey given the close relationship between Deirta and Leylas and Leylas’ age relative to esseks do you think she knew him as a little kid? Do you think she ever held him as a baby? Do you think the reason she took his side and believed him against Verrat and later Adeen was because she didn’t want to believe a child she’d more than likely known since he entered the world would betray her so thoroughly? Do you think when Deirta was expecting she ever had Leylas over to have tea and helped decide between names? Do you think she had bets going on whether it would be a boy or a girl? Do you think his betrayal cut more knowing it came from a child she used to see holding onto his mother’s skirts and asking when they could go home?
