Cabbage White on Camomile.
as some of the most widespread and common insects on the planet, there's some irony in cabbage whites also being ridiculously elusive even by butterfly standards. this large white (Pieris rapae) was so unnaturally calm that i thought something fishy was going on, but it still ended up not letting me get too close so i think i just caught the 1 in 1000 that knew what landing was

Do you have anything on the white cabbage moth?
It's spring here in Australia so I've started seeing them pop up again :>

TODAY'S FACT IS
Did you know that the Cabbage White (Pieris rapae) is a small butterfly believed to be native to the eastern Mediterranean but has spread through much of the northern hemisphere and into Australia and New Zealand? The gluttony of the caterpillars give them part of their name as they loooooove to eat cabbage and similar plants, enough to be considered a pest in such gardens. The adult butterfly gives it the rest of its name because it's, well, white. They are often mistaken for moths because of their simple appearance.

A simple yet beautiful butterfly searching for nectar, perched on a flower of matching color! I was able to get a single picture of this individual before it went on its way as the ever-working cabbage white does. These butterflies can be seen fluttering about in most parts of the world, but catching one sitting still is a much harder task. I love the subtle yellow tint on this one's wings!
My destructive beauty Pieris rapae for all my failed gardeners worldwide please <3 huge agricultural pest of indescribable and abyssal loss but so innocently beautiful...
Excellent choice! No doubt lots of people have seen this species!

Hey! Could you ID some of these for me?
These four. ^^ The top two and the bottom left one I all found at home. I think I may know what the bottom left one is, as I found the caterpillar and hatched it myself. But I just wanted to be extra sure. (Right after I took that picture it flew off in our house. I managed to catch it and released it outside after Lol) And the bottom right one I found on a road trip a year or two ago, in Sioux Falls in September. It stuck out so much in the green grass. 😂 First thought it was like an ablino woolly bear or something. So I thought I would ask about it. The bottom three below this are just extra. I took them in butterfly houses and wanted to show you them too. ^^ Tysm. 💜
