IHS Cameos in Other Comics
Oh hey, look who got a cameo in everybody's favourite hyena comic @tofautisawa by the awesome @thecynicalhound:
That's right: our very own Cackler Ma! c: I also thought it was worth mentioning that our Camellia got cameo'd in the comic a while back too and she looked appropriately done with the proceedings most of the time. lol
And while we're here, shoutout to @howlingcrispy for her lesbian defending bison!Obsidian cameo in her epic wolf comic, Crescent Moonlight. c:
Thanks to both of y'all for featuring our characters. We super appreciate it. Sorry for taking a while to make a post featuring these cameos. We'll certainly try and make this a series if more folks wish to ever feature us in their projects. c: - RJ
I'm re reading the comic, and didn't realize Merry was chasing Cackler Ma! It was said they lived harmoniously with each other in their bio..When he died, the hyenas DID antagonize the lionesses to the point of Clever sending her cubs away! What did the grove do to them for that? Since Jasper only showed up after a while?
Its up to interpretation mostly. Hyenas could've been pushing their luck, it could've been a part of the family that doesn't fall in line, it could be hyenas still see lions as competition for food. Take your pick really haha - Cat
sorry if this has already been explained, i try to keep up with the blog and lore but i cant recall any details on this lol
what were watchful and wild's relationship with the matriarch and her family in the golden grove? iirc watchful was very protective of the grove. so it'd make sense if they didnt have the best relationship, but did they find a sort of steady peace where fighting was more rare? what did merry and clever do following them?
If this helps: if it's not pertinent to the main narrative, chances are we haven't discussed it here. While Wild was a very proper chap and not prone to violent outbursts, his appearance - he was quite a big boi - was enough to make the cacklers think twice before pushing their limit. And this was a pretty active campaign. It didn't have the "respect" of Merry's relationship with them. That's not to say Wild was an awful person. He was a dad having consecutive litters with his mate and cacklers naturally made him feel a bit antsy. He was also a bit hen-pecked by Watchful and did all he could to please her. As for Clever and Merry, we've gone over this but Merry was less strict with them and this allowed the cacklers to cover more ground in the Plains, which is something Watchful and Wild would never have allowed and this is partly why Vicious was less than enthused with Merry being King. As far as she was concerned, the cacklers weren't exactly filled with neighbourly sentiment towards the lions. Fear was the only thing keeping them in line and she was somewhat right to an extent, as they took the opportunity to try and take the Grove after Merry vanished. However, they were only acting in their best interests and didn't deserve the massacre that Jasper and Edge dished out. - RJ
I don't know if this is intentional, but I like how old the cackler ma is, I love seeing senior animals in general, even if they're fictional and it's just!!!
LOOK AT HER THRIVING!!!! FLOURISHING!!!
YEAH i also love drawing senior animals haha I can't wait to draw Obsidian and Opal again. Old people need representation too (even tho they're never gonna read this LOL) - Cat
It's soooooo sweet that Cackler Ma trusts Hope and the others around her baby
Well, Hope and co. did look after him for like two days and didn't eat him or anything so I think they've more than earned their positions as his honourary lion aunts. lolol - RJ
I know y'all get a lot of questions like this so I'm sorry if it's getting annoying lol but I gotta know ,, you've said before lions and cacklers (or any other species for that matter) cannot physically verbally speak the same language. But what about alternative communication methods? Like paw signs or by drawing stuff on the ground for example. I'm pretty fascinated by that sort of stuff so I'd love to know your thoughts!
While our characters are anthropomorphic, they're still animals. That means they utilise a lot of body language to communicate with each other and other species so that's what they would fall back on by default. As we've shown when Hope realised that Cackler Ma could not understand her and opted to give her a nod of thanks instead in this recent chapter. Thus, eliminating the need to develop other means of communication if verbal communication isn't possible.
And no, I'm never, ever going to get tired of posting this gif when it comes to this topic of discussion. lol - RJ

Also drawing isn't a common thing in this world (which is going to be addressed next arc actually). Since animals aren't used to the concept of drawing, interpretations of things would likely be misunderstood. - Cat
