Which one is most correct: caffè latte, caffelatte, caffèlatte, or caffellatte? Or some secret fifth option? I tried looking it up, but I'm getting mixed results. :/

Treccani (trusted Italian vocabulary and grammar resource) states "caffellatte" as the best version, and "caffelatte" as a less correct but still used option. We don't really pronounce the double L (caffellatte) cause the original (and valid/correct -meaning you can use it too) definition is "caffè e latte": when talking we pronounce it so fast that with time we ended up making it a one-word definition. Grammatically speaking though, there has to be a double L there if we use this one-word definition. Anyway because of this mess, we do get creative when we have to write it so I understand your struggle (it's the same for us) lol
