CLOUD: An Interactive Sculpture Made from 6,000 Light Bulbs
Comparison: CLOUD and HEARTBEAT are both displayed in public as art installation, and at certain point, they have the same concept behind the design, which is sustainability; it is a huge subject in these time, since our planet has been struggled with serve climate change and pollution. They act as a medium to educate people and make people think.
In term of the structure, these two art pieces look quite similar-overlapping objects, and both are made of daily objects(balloons and light bulbs). These form of art work is more preferable to be showcased in outdoor/indoor common places,in this case, market square.

CLOUD is a large-scale interactive sculpture created from 6,000 light bulbs (new and burnt out) by Canadian artists Caitlind r.c. Brown & Wayne Garrett. The piece utilizes everyday domestic light bulbs and pull strings, re-imagining their potential to create wonder and inspire collaboration. As part of the process of creating the sculpture, the artists collected burnt out incandescent light bulbs from the surrounding community, forging an informal relationship with non-artists, reducing costs, and asking audiences to reconsider household items in an alternative context. During exhibition, viewers interact with CLOUD by initiating impromptu collaborations, working as a collective to turn the entire sculpture on and off.
Reflection:
First, I think the starting point of the interactive design by designer “cloud” is very good. It is because he started at environmentally friendly way, using deprecated bulbs in community for the interactive design. It inspires audience to think about the issue of environmental household goods protection in another way. It brings the environmental information to all. Also, there is no light outdoor, light is produced unless people rely on each other together to pull the shackles. It looks like telling people that unity is strength and hope. In the film, we saw that when people perfunctorily pull the shackles, the light will soon be no. Everyone scream and be scared. Later, when we pulled the shackles together, the light glows. Everyone cheer. This shows that cooperation between people can produce power. It also shows that light represents joy and hope. However, there are still some disadvantages of the design. "Cloud" is placed outdoor and using lots of light-emitting bulbs. Light bulbs will produce lots of heat during lighting. If it rains, the hot light bulbs may explode because they are suddenly cooled down by rain drops, which will be very dangerous. Therefore, security issues should be considered before exhibition or change the inhibition to indoor instead of outdoor.
