6:30 - I pick Ryan up at his work 6:50 - We board BART train 7:08 - We get off at MacArthur to transfer to a Richmond line and a bike man helps us find the right train 7:13 - We realize bike man led us astray and we are one the wrong train 7:20 - We get off at 19th St. Oakland and a man with a backpack and later a woman with a blackberry assist us in getting on the right train 7:23 - In my anxiety I run towards a train door. Ryan stops me. It is the wrong train. 7:30 - We get to Downtown Berkeley! 7:30:01 - Now what? 7:31 - We start walking in accordance to my hand drawn map and phone’s gps. 8:15 - We are exhausted from walking uphill and still lost. Map and GPS led us astray. Just like bike man. 8:45 - Ask a man in a dinosaur suit if he knows where the Plant and Genetics Biology room. He says no but looks happy. A bald man points us in the right direction. 8:55 - Just kidding. It was the wrong direction. The only thing stopping us from getting back on BART to go to SF is the fact that two of my favorite poets are performing. 8:56 - I hate UC Berkeley. 8:59 - Jessica’s wonderful friend Alison calls us and guides us. 9:15 - FOUND IT. WE FOUND IT. YAY WE FOUND IT. 11:00 - I get the two poets’ (Michael Lee & Sam Cook) CDs and poetry booklets, talk to them for a little bit and we leave. 11:30 - Downtown BART station. Transfer went flawlessly. 12:15 - Get to Safeway to get something to drink thinking they’re all 24/7. They’re not. 12:55 - McDonald’s for a Coke and an ice cream cone. 1:00 - Home. Long night but so worth it. All in all, it without a doubt inspired me to focus more on writing poetry and get out and perform it.
