Writer Cary Bates introduced youthful Californian Charley Parker who idolized Hawkman and ran around in a home-made Hawkman costume, calling himself "Golden Eagle". He was never a proper sidekick, and mostly I think they invented him just to have a bird-themed superhero named after Charlie Parker because, bless their hearts, comic book writers are only ever "clever" in their own special way ...

Gone & Forgotten: How Many Hawkmans?

I've been thinking about Calamity Jon's team building game since he first posted about it, and I finally put together an Avengers team I'm happy with. Also, since I can't draw at all, I turned to Fábrica de Heróis to help me envision my two new members, seen above.

According to Jon's guidelines:

Two members are veterans

The Wasp (Janet van Dyne) and the Black Panther (T'Challa)

Most of the core Avengers are unavailable for some reason (mission in deep space, maybe?), so Jan and T'Challa recruit a new team, with Jan as the leader, a role I always liked her in.

Two members are new to the team

Lady Sif and Lightspeed (Julie Power)

A good Avengers roster requires at least one deity, and I like the idea of Sif on a superhero team. Meanwhile, Julie's our obligatory speedster, as well as the young kid who's excited to be reaching the superteam big leagues. Also, she's going to have a hopeless crush on Sif, because who wouldn't?

Two members are revamps of previous members

Goliath (Bill Foster) and Rage (Sofie Vasquez)

Bill Foster's dead in current continuity, but this is his 1970's incarnation, who ended up trapped in the present due to a time travel experiment he was involved in at Project Pegasus. He still wears his amazing old-school outfit, complete with pirate boots and afro, and speaks in 1970's slang. He's not a joke, though- he's the team's resident scientist (although he's still catching up on the internet and cell phones).

The all-new Rage is Sofie Vasquez, a transgender Latina mutant. Fed up with the varying forms of discrimination and mistrust she's faced, she employs her cat-like agility and reflexes as a street level vigilante. She has doubts about the good she can do as an Avenger, but the Wasp insists she belongs on the team.

One member is all-new

Diaspora (G'yana)

A Skrull dissident who aided the Avengers during a space battle and was exiled from the Skrull Empire, G'yana managed to legally immigrate to Earth and the U.S. with help from Captain America, who she idolizes (hence the shirt). She has the standard Skrull shapeshifting powers, which makes her an asset to the team, and she's really excited to be here. Also, she looks like a green version of the pop star Robyn, just because I find that idea adorable.

Two reserve members who are total wild cards

Forge and the Thing

Forge is the team's tech guy, since Stark and Pym aren't around and Foster's still figuring out how to use a GPS. And of course Ben Grimm spends most of his time with the FF, but he's on call whenever the Avengers need some extra muscle, or if somebody's starting a poker game.
