T o Catch a Monster
Fanfic idea I had today. Thought I’d post a bit of a synopsis for it, get a feel for what people think. Already have at least five fanfics that I’m working on so not sure if or when I’ll work on this one if at all.

RWBY Fanfic Idea
I was watching “House” when I had an interesting idea for a fanfic.
Jaune Arc is a veteran of Remnant’s most recent war. He lives in Vale, owns a small apartment, goes about his daily life, and also has weakly visits to a psychiatric facility. Jaune suffers from a form of PTSD that caused an extreme reaction where he suppresses all of his emotions, essentially making his an emotionless shell of his former self. This state is directly tied to the lose of his right arm and, despite his doctor’s best efforts, he isn’t getting better. The main problem isn’t that the treatments aren’t working. The problem is that, mentally, Jaune doesn’t want to be fixed.
Calcipher Mordan is veteran of the recent war, a member of the squad Jaune was attached to, and he is also Jaune’s doctor. During their deployments both he and Jaune became close friends to the point that they were essentially brothers. After witnessing the trauma that caused Jaune’s condition Calcipher, who already had a Masters in Psychology, pushed himself to attain his PhD so he could better help his brother and became his physician. However, Calcipher himself also suffers from a mental condition. Brought about by mental abuse from both family members and people he interacted with growing up he suffers from the inability to look at his reflection. He cannot essentially look at himself, pictures included, without seeing a warped, misshapen version of it. As such he avoids mirrors and reflective surfaces to the point that his office is devoid of them them, even his picture frames, except for the windows which he suffers except on rainy days when he closes the blinds to hide the reflection.
Blake Belladonna has just moved back to the city of Vale. Having spent much of her time abroad and even sometime as a war time reporter, she has seen things most people would prefer to forgot when it comes to the reality of war. Looking to put the pat behind her, she moves back to her old stomping grounds for its familiarity and a fresh start. To her surprise she finds he ex-boyfriend, Jaune Arc, is living there as well. Prior to his enlistment they broke up over an argument in regards to his joining the war effort. Upon seeing him she attempts to interact and restart their friendship but soon finds that the war changed him in ways she could not have predicted. Seeking to discover the truth she follows him to the clinic where she meets Calcipher Mordan and learns of Jaune’s condition. Through a series of visits she ultimately decides to help, hoping to help the man she once loved heal only to find herself falling back in love with him. As time progresses her efforts prove fruitful but she finds her conscience conflicted as she begins to ask herself “Am I truly working to help heal him or simply to expose the truth behind the events that caused him so much pain?” In the end it will be up to her to decide if the horrors of war will be exposed to the public or if they will remain a closely guarded secret.
Weiss Schnee is the granddaughter of Nicholas Schnee, a veteran of the first Great War that engulfed Remnant, and the man who started the mental health clinic dedicated to helping war veterans heal from the mental trauma they suffered as a result. While working as an assistant for her father, Jacques Schnee, she meets Calcipher Mordan, a veteran of the most recent war and a new addition to their medical team. While seeing him in the same light as many of the other doctors who, like her father, see their patients as little more than cash cows, Calcipher surprises her when she notices him take obvious interest in the care of his patients. One patient in particular, Jaune Arc, has been labeled as a lost cause by many of the veteran physicians yet despite this Calcipher refuses to give up on the man and continues to see him week after week. It isn’t long before she learns the nature of their relationship and her admiration for his dedication to a man he considers his brother blossoms into love. After a fews years of dating the two become engaged, against her father’s wishes obviously. In that time, however, Weiss comes to understand that Calcipher himself suffers from a mental condition and while many would consider it easier for her to simply cut her loses and break off the engagement she instead chooses to push forward. Inspired by his dedication to his brother, Weiss refuses to allow Calcipher to suffer alone, swearing to help him heal from his mental wounds one step at a time just as he has done for Jaune.
There’s a few details I have to hammer out but for the most part I have confidence in the story. It’ll be different from what I usually write but some how that just makes it that much more intriguing. It’ll be uncharted territory for me and something I believe I’ll truly enjoy exploring.
