Jennerit Holiday at the End of the World
Well! I wasn't sure if I would be participating in this year's Battleborn Day art contest. The theme was 'Holiday at the End of the World' and I got the idea (with spouse assistance) to put the pale pasty vampy Jennerit girls, Ambra, Deande, and Beatrix, sun-tanning under one of Ambra's Sunspots. (What does Beatrix even have to tan?) And then, because I couldn't help myself, I put the rest of the Jennerit. Attikus in the sand, Rath swimming laps, and Caldarius in the air. And then because I was crazy, I decided that Deande invited Whiskey to hang with them. And then, just because I love him, I decided that Whiskey might invite Mike. But Mike and Whiskey don't actually know if he's allowed to be there. So Mike is cloaked... (hint: you can see where he's seated by his drink). The rest of them obviously know he's there. Are they not saying anything because they're being nice to the poor dumb clones? Or because they're jerks and they think it's hilarious? I figured that a Jennerit party needed cocktails. They seem like they don't party without cocktails (look at Caldy's tiny cup!). Picture completed in May of 2019 Media: Gouache and ink on paper.

June 5th: Jennerit
“I’ve heard your kind don’t believe in soulmates.” The sudden statement took the Kemessian off-guard, and his winged armour twitched in anticipation as he regarded the swordmaster at his side. Where the hell was this coming from? “And?” Always curt, this one. With all of the long, drawn out practices and ceremonies of the Jennerit, Caldarius’ blunt approach to... just about everything ticked Rath’s patience. When was he going to learn that the finer things in life couldn’t be rushed? “And I think you’re wrong.” Red eyes narrowed down at the crowds of Jennerit below them. Rendain had once stood on this very balcony, addressing the people on the follies of their ways and how he planned to set about improving their way of life. “Sounds like a personal problem,” the walking suit of armour retorted, the twin glows of his helmet glaring angrily back at his “compatriot.” Rath stifled a chuckle, his elongated canine peeking out from between thin lips. “That sounded like an attempt at humour.” For a being so angry and full of hate, Caldarius still surprised him on occasion. “You would be wrong. Back to your question.” The Kemessian hated detours of conversation. It made the whole experience take longer when he could be doing something more constructive with his time. Like sparring. Or cracking open more Varelsi masks. “I think you’re wrong...” Rath hesitated, his shoulders squaring back and his hand coming to rest on the hilt of one of his blades. “... because never have I met another cut from the same cloth as myself.” Caldarius hummed for a while before he turned to face him. “You could just say you wanted to go steady.” Rath suddenly felt quite hot, and he swallowed hard against the sudden tightness of his throat. Another tally mark on the board for Caldarius taking him by surprise. “Another attempt at humour?” He finally barked out with a muffled chuckle. “I’ve been practicing. Nova says I’m getting better,” Caldarius replied coolly. Maybe he would never adopt the Jennerit’s beliefs of soulmates and stardust and all that touchy-feely garbage, but he couldn’t deny that they had plenty in common that bound their fates together. ... plus the swordmaster wasn’t much for idle prattle, so that was an added bonus.
